The Ghana Education Service (GES) has provided a robust response to the ongoing public discourse and concerns that have arisen following the announcement of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

In a statement issued on Monday, December 1, 2025, the Service aimed to clarify the situation and safeguard what it refers to as the integrity of the national examination process.

As per the statement signed by Daniel Fenny, Head of Public Relations at GES, management has acknowledged remarks made by the former Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei-Adutwum, who implied that the performance of students in the 2025 WASSCE could be linked to the Service’s purportedly unsupportive management practices.

GES refuted these claims, characterising them as an effort to distract from the integrity and results of the examination.

Management encouraged the public to ignore such statements, asserting that the 2025 results genuinely represent the academic capabilities of the students.

In response to allegations regarding the cancellation of teacher allowances, GES clarified that no such decision had been made. The organisation pointed out that the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) had already publicly detailed the reasons for the non-payment of November allowances for teachers, emphasizing that GES played no part in the cancellation of any entitlements.

GES further highlighted that the 2025 WASSCE was administered with increased levels of supervision, stringent invigilation, and enhanced examination protocols to prevent malpractice. According to the statement, these measures resulted in the arrest and apprehension of both students and certain staff members who attempted to engage in examination irregularities.

Prior to the commencement of the examination, the Ministry of Education and GES issued strict directives warning that any teacher or official found to be facilitating malpractice would face severe penalties. This directive, the Service noted, was strictly enforced.

Management characterised the 2025 WASSCE results as a “trustworthy reflection” of candidates’ performance and a sign of a gradual restoration of integrity within the examination system.

“It is important to recognise that the results serve as a clear indication of the movement towards reinstating the integrity of the examination process,” the statement remarked, emphasising that a reliable system ultimately serves the interests of students, schools, and the nation.

GES further emphasised its commitment to maintaining examination standards and will not waver in its dedication to the integrity of any national assessment.
