PETALING JAYA: National men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik failed to make it to the finals of the French Open, losing to Indonesian pair Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Shohibul Fikri early this morning.
The world No 2 pair were sent packing by the seventh-ranked Indonesians in straight games of 14-21, 19-21 in 40 minutes in their semi-final match at the Glaz Arena in Cesson-Sevigne.
Aaron-Wooi Yik have now lost both their encounters against Fajar-Shohibul to date. They were also beaten in straight games at the China Open in July.
Despite their defeat, the Malaysians took home US$13,300 (RM56,200) for reaching the semi-finals of the World Tour Super 750 championships.
The French Open was their 10th semi-final appearance in the 17 tournaments they have competed in this year. They made it to six finals and won three titles - the Badminton Asia Championships, the Singapore Open, and the Thailand Open.
Aaron-Wooi Yik are placed second in the World Tour Finals standings, where only the top eight pairs will qualify for the season finale, to be played in Hangzhou, China, in December,
Each country will be limited to two pairs per category in the US$3 million Super 1000 tournament. Man Wei Chong-Te Kai Wun are fifth on the list while Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani are placed ninth.
Five tournaments remain before the World Tour Finals.
