Adhere to PFM guidelines in 2026–2029 budgets – Greater Accra Minister to MMDAs
Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Accra have been urged to comply with the Public Financial Management guidelines in drafting budgets for the 2026 to 2029 period.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister made this call during the launch of the 2026–2029 Regional Composite Budget Hearing for all MMDAs in Accra.
Speaking on behalf of the Regional Minister, the Director of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Lilian Baeka, on Monday, October 20, emphasised that adherence to these regulations would enhance accountability and transparency, and ensure that government policies are carefully developed and translated into implementable programmes.
“Our hearings will be conducted on zonal basis concurently across all 29 MMDAs in the Greater Accra region from Monday, October 20 to Friday, October 25. As we deliberate on our regional budget, lets us be guided by the laws and by the 2026 and 2029 budget preparations guidelines issued by the Ministry of Finance,” she urged.
Touching on some challenges currently affecting effective budgeting, she highlighted exceeding budget ceilings, inadequate capacity, and deficiencies in data management as major concerns.
Madam Baeka further advised MMDAs to enhance their digital revenue collection.
