Songs have always been the heartbeat of Indian cinema. At times, they strike so deeply that the film becomes unforgettable.
If a song connects with the heart, it never fades. This is why classic songs of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s resonate with today’s generations.
We are talking about one of such songs, which featured Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha.
The song in question is Salaam-e-Ishq Meri Jaan from the film Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978).
It was sung by the legendary Kishore Kumar and the melody queen Lata Mangeshkar.
The iconic duo Kalyanji-Anandji composed the music, while the lyrics were penned by Anjaan.
Upon release, the song became so popular that it was heard everywhere, from weddings to radio shows and live performances and even today, it remains one of the most loved songs in Hindi cinema.
While the melody and lyrics won hearts, it was Rekha and Amitabh’s undeniable on-screen chemistry that made the song unforgettable.
The sequence narrates the painful yet passionate love story of Zarina (Rekha) and Sikandar (Amitabh).
Rekha’s unmatched energy, graceful moves, and the magic in her eyes were enough to set the stage on fire.
Directed by Prakash Mehra, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar emerged as one of the highest-grossing films of 1978.
It was also the third-highest-grossing film of the decade, after Sholay (1975) and Bobby (1973). The film also starred Vinod Khanna, Raakhee, Ranjeet, and Amjad Khan.
