MANILA, Philippines — Starting her Women's Tennis Association (WTA) 2025 season in 147th place, Filipino tennis ace Alexandra 'Alex' Eala said she never thought she'd break into the top 50 to end the year. She couldn't believe that she reached 50th which doubles as her career-best.'Wow! In the beginning of 2025 I never would've thought I'd get year end top 50! So surreal to see it out officially,' Eala wrote in an Instagram story on Tuesday, reposting WTA's graphic featuring her reaching the top 50 as new career-high.That wasn't the first time Eala talked about her achievement, having made a separate post on November 4 about how her dreams came to reality. The 20-year-old netter said that it's only the start for what she hopes is a long Tour career.'My season comes to an end. I have no words to describe what 2025 has brought me. My dreams have truly come alive,' said Eala.'It’s such a privilege to look back at this year and relive these amazing moments through memory. All that’s happened this season and the emotions that come with it is a love letter to my family, friends, team, every supporter across my journey in tennis, and of course, baby Alex.'This marks the beginning of what I hope to be a long, happy and fruitful career on tour! Thank you everybody, see you in 2026!'Eala's semifinal run at the Miami Open last March was the major driving force of her breakout year, catapulting her from 140th to 75th before steadily climbing the ladder and reaching 50th in the rankings. After a vacation here in the country, Eala went back to her training center at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain.Eala, who last saw action at the Hong Kong Open late last month, is expected to play at the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand from December 9 to 20.The lefty netter is confirmed to play at the Macau Masters from December 27 to 28 as part of her buildup for her 2026 season.Next year, Eala will finally make her Australian Open debut with the first major of the year running from January 12 to February 1.
