HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman was rushed to the hospital Tuesday night after being shot by suspects involved in a child custody dispute with her boyfriend, the Harris County Sheriff's Office says.
The dispute began inside a Walmart store near Fry Road and West Little York Road in Harris County, the sheriff said. They added that a mother and her family members found her child inside the Walmart, accompanied by the child's father and his girlfriend.
HCSO said both parties exited the store, and a disturbance followed in the parking lot. The father and girlfriend were outside the vehicle when the shooting took place, injuring the woman, HCSO said.
With the child inside the car, the suspects chased the father and girlfriend through a neighborhood where the couple crashed shortly thereafter, HCSO said.
HCSO said there were four unidentified suspects inside the other vehicle, and no one is in custody at the moment.
Paramedics rushed the woman to the hospital, where she is expected to be OK, HCSO said.
HCSO did not say who has custody of the child, but they did say they were released to family members at the scene. They added that the incident is under investigation.
