Cork bride Lila Sullivan breaks ankle just hours before her wedding

A Cork woman has opened up about having to wear crutches at her wedding after breaking her ankle just hours before the big day. A wedding day can be stressful as it is, to make sure everything is in order, the hair and makeup is perfect and the guests are arriving on time. However, for Lila Sullivan, it was even more so as she woke up the morning of her wedding unable to walk on one of her legs. The bride had taken a fall the day before and thought nothing of it, but on the morning of her wedding to longtime love Owen O’Brien from Midleton, she realised she couldn't put any weight on her ankle. Despite it being her big day, she came to the conclusion that she needed to go to hospital to get it looked at. Speaking to Neil Prendeville on Cork's Red FM, Lila said: "I didn't think really about it. I just went into my mind to say, what are we going to do to get this sorted here and now? The show must go on. "When I said I was getting married today [at the hospital], they were like, what? Within two minutes, I was seen. Everyone was in shock, everyone was like, we'll get you out as fast as we can. They were very good. "I broke my ankle in two places." Lila's ankle was put in a cast, and despite the pain and the difficulty, she was determined to continue on with her special day without any meltdowns or stress. She returned to the hotel and had her hair and makeup done, before getting into her stunning dress - cast and all. "Something weird came over me that just put me in pure focus," she said. "I can't describe the feeling." Even with her injury, Lila and Owen tied the knot and the rest of the day went off without a hitch - with the couple even able to share a first dance. The couple's guests were in awe at how tough Lila was being. "It was a lot of praise really," she said. "To be honest, I didn't feel the pain until the next day." Thankfully, Lila is on the mend and the pair weren't planning on their honeymoon until February - so they luckily avoided Lila being injured while they celebrated their honeymoon! "We had that plan already," she said. "We're going to go away in February, we're lucky we had that planned."
