Dharmendra Played Double Role In This Film Starring An Ex-CM — The Leader’s Only Bollywood Film As LEAD

The “He-Man of Bollywood,” Dharmendra, ruled Hindi cinema through the 1960s and 1970s with his charm, intensity and commanding screen presence. Over the years, he delivered countless hits and became a household name. Among his many memorable performances, there was one film where he starred opposite a former Chief Minister. The film in question is Izzat, released in 1968. He took on a double role. In the film, Dharmendra shared screen space with Jayalalitha, who later became one of India’s most powerful political figures. She served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for over 14 years across multiple terms. She first assumed office in 1991 and held her final term until her passing in 2016. Her only film, Izzat, where she was paired with Dharmendra, stood out not just for its story but for the legendary actor’s layered portrayal of two very different sons bound by fate and blood. The film revolved around an arrogant Thakur, played by Balraj Sahni and the fallout of his actions. Dharmendra played both his sons, each with distinct pain and purpose. As the story unfolded, the versatile actor switched effortlessly between the fire of revenge and the vulnerability of love, showcasing the range that made him a legend. The film also featured Tanuja, whose performance added another layer of depth to the storyline while also balancing Dharmendra’s intense dual act. His chemistry with the leading lady, Jayalalithaa, was one of the film’s highlights. Around 19 years old at the time, she brought a rare blend of grace and innocence to her role. On November 10, 2025, Dharmendra was hospitalised with critical health concerns. The 89-year-old actor was reportedly placed on ventilator support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for close observation. Amid growing speculation, Esha Deol took to X to reassure fans that the veteran actor is recovering well and requested everyone to continue praying for his health.
