Former CFMEU boss John Setka arrested

The former leader of the union’s powerful Victorian division was hit with the charges on Wednesday, The Age reports. The masthead reports Mr Setka has been charged with seven counts of using a carriage service to menace. A carriage service conveys communication and examples include mobile phones, social media and email. If convicted, the maximum penalty for the offence is three years in jail. Mr Setka stepped down from his position as CFMEU Victorian state secretary in July last year, following allegations of widespread misconduct in the union. Later that year, the federal government forced the construction division of the controversial union into administration. More to come.
