Police received reports about the concerning behaviour of a man, aged in his 20s, who fled Coolangatta just after 1pm on Thursday.
Officers went to an apartment complex on Dutton St where they found a man’s body.
The man who fled was tracked about 50km away at Upper Coomera and taken into police custody one hour later.
A police spokesman said two crime scenes had been established.
“It is believed the two men are known to each other and there is no ongoing threat to the community,” a spokesman said.
Anyone with information or footage that could assist is urged to contact police.
The investigation is continuing.
