Modi congratulated the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team, who were dressed in smart formal attire and wearing their winner’s medals, on their remarkable achievement. He praised their impressive comeback in the tournament after suffering three defeats in the league stage and dealing with social media trolling. The team arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday for a scheduled meeting with PM Modi, amidst tight security. They ended their wait for a major ICC trophy by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup final held at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur reminisced about meeting PM Modi in 2017, noting the difference now that they were meeting him with the trophy. She expressed the team’s desire to meet him more often.
