8.21pm BST Thanks for reading, don’t miss Aaron Bower’s report: Related: Hull KR secure treble with dominant display against Wigan in Super League Grand Final Good night. 8.19pm BST “My grandma died Christmas just gone, a lifetime Hull KR fan,” emails Joe. “The year she goes they go out and get the treble! “Thinking of her tonight and what a night! Come on Rovers.” 8.18pm BST The Wigan head coach Matt Peet is asked: too many errors? “Definitely. To get ourselves back in the game … We had to look after the ball in the second half and we failed to do so. But that’s also credit to the pressure that Hull KR were putting on us defensively … all the credit goes to them tonight. Tonight belongs to them. I’m very proud of my players but we just weren’t quite good enough tonight. “I said to them – my pride in them, love for them, doesn’t depend on the performance tonight. It’s irrelevant. I know what they are as men, as players. What they do for this club. “I just said, none of them should apologise for what happened out there tonight. We handled it the right way. We keep moving forward … “Hull KR deserve it. To do what they have done, it doesn’t come down to one man, but Willie leads it very well. The board, the juniors, all the players and their families. They deserve everything they get. Every Grand Final is a story, and this one is about Hull KR.” Updated at 8.29pm BST 8.11pm BST “The people of east Hull have waited a long time,” says Peters. “We’re a community-based club first. The fans are the most important people to us. “Our fans do it tough. They have to fight for everything, and work for everything. And that’s what these players did tonight. I’m so proud. “Mikey Lewis owned the big moments. He knew before this game he had to take those big moments and go after the game a bit more. Tonight was the perfect opportunity for him. I don’t want to get to far ahead, but tonight’s the making of Mikey Lewis, there’s no doubt about that. We know he’s a very good player … to chase greatness, you need to do this each year, but that’s the start of the journey, for me, in terms of where he can get to. “They’re all legends to me. There’s four teams that have won the treble … St Helens won fours years in a row. They haven’t won the double or the treble. It is so, so hard to do. Champion teams will always be remembered as champion teams … this team is in that category now by winning the treble this year. “The players are champions. We support them. So proud of them.” Updated at 8.13pm BST 8.08pm BST Aaron Bower’s report is here: Related: Hull KR secure treble with dominant display against Wigan in Super League Grand Final 8.06pm BST Liam Farrell of Wigan: “Apart from the first 15, 20 minutes, they controlled the game very well. We’ve got a lot to learn from that. “We didn’t give ourselves enough opportunities … “They [Hull KR] have been extremely good … they’ve been consistent and very resilient. They deserve to win everything this year.” 8.04pm BST “It might only happen once in my career,” says Mikey Lewis. “I’m just going to enjoy it with my family and my mates. And my teammates. I love them all.” What’s he doing tonight? “Partying.” 8.00pm BST Reaction from Old Trafford coming up … You can also email me if you like. Updated at 8.04pm BST 7.58pm BST FT: Hull KR 24-6 Wigan. Rovers win the Grand Final 80 min: Fisticuffs to end it. Nsemba of Wigan’s shirt is partially ripped off. It doesn’t matter. Hull KR have absolutely smashed it out of the park. The buzzer sounds and the celebrations can begin. Collectively an absolutely crushing display, aided by some errors from Wigan, but that shows how much pressure they were put under. Just the fifth time a team has won the treble in the Super League era. An amazing tale of redemption for Hull KR. Updated at 8.08pm BST 7.55pm BST Try! 79 min: Hull KR 24-6 Wigan (Burgess) Huge interception by Burgess! He’s in under the posts and dives over the line! What a way for Hull KR to seal it! What a performance. Martin converts and it’s all over. Updated at 8.02pm BST 7.52pm BST 76 min: Wigan launch what feels like one last desperate attack. They move the ball right, then left. Field tries a kick for the corner but it’s overhit. The ball bounces harmlessly out, and it feels like the celebrations for Hull KR’s supporters can start in earnest … a treble is on the way! The players must wait a few more minutes before they can celebrate a job well done. 7.49pm BST 74 min: Yet again Wigan are pinned back int their own half. French embarks on an angled run through midfield, putting in a grubber kick into space and forcing an error from Davies. With just over five minutes remaining they need a score and quickly. 7.48pm BST 72 min: “If you don’t like pressure, sign for another club.” It was fighting talk from Peet before kick-off – but his players have come up short this evening and made a succession of errors in the face of Hull KR’s impressive intensity. 7.45pm BST 71 min: Hands on the ball for Lewis again for Hull KR. It looks like he briefly considers a drop-goal, just to turn the screw, but then he skips between a couple of would-be tacklers and is off into space again. He’s been a constant threat, and the head coach Peters will be thrilled with the performance of his stand-off. Updated at 8.54pm BST 7.42pm BST 69 min: Hull KR on the attack again, deep into their opponents’ half. Yet again it’s all hands on deck in the Wigan defence. Would we have seen a different game if Wigan had taken those two early chances? We’ll never know, but since then, Hull KR have been right in the faces of Peet’s side. They’ve been pretty much relentless and their error count has been lower. Updated at 7.43pm BST 7.39pm BST 66 min: Horrible knock-on by Marshall puts Wigan right under the pump again! The TV cameras go to the coaches: Peet looks suitably ashen-faced, while the Australian Peters looks so excited he’s ready to burst. Perhaps he knows that barring some sort of miracle, his Hull KR players are going to have enough from here. Updated at 7.40pm BST 7.36pm BST 64 min: Mourgue, who has been outstanding, claims another high kick and embarks on another elusive run into the waiting Wigan defence. He dodges a couple of tackles before Keighran stops him in his tracks. 7.33pm BST Try! 60 min: Hull KR 18-6 Wigan (Litten) Beautiful hands by Litten and Hiku and the hooker crashes over for what might be the decisive score! Martin converts. It’s a long way back for Wigan from here. Updated at 7.39pm BST 7.29pm BST 57 min: A knock-on gives Wigan a platform but Miski knocks on, on the right wing, much to the delight of Lewis, who shouts in his general direction. Minchella is off for Hull, for what looks like a rest before what is promising to be a tense finale at Old Trafford. Updated at 7.30pm BST 7.26pm BST Penalty! 53 min: Hull KR 12-6 Wigan (Martin) Six points the lead for Hull. Updated at 7.27pm BST 7.26pm BST 53 min: Penalty for Hull KR for a deliberate knock-on! Martin has a chance to stretch the lead back to six … 7.23pm BST 52 min: A wonderful score by Wigan that feels like a big momentum-shifter. But can Hull KR reassert themselves? 7.22pm BST Try! Hull KR 10-6 Wigan (Smith) What a score! Field with a wonderful speedy run to the outside, breaking the defensive line, and then a dummy and switch back inside to Smith, who scorches to the line with the defence torn apart. A stunning score but Keighran pulls the conversion! Updated at 7.31pm BST 7.19pm BST 48 min: Lewis looks dangerous for Hull whenever he gets the ball in his hands. He’s always got his head up and is seemingly able to spot gaps others can’t. Updated at 7.19pm BST 7.18pm BST 46 min: Hull KR build a progressive attack to within a couple of metres but have to hand it over. Wigan end up kicking it back and Mourgue tidies up impressively at full-back and has a run. 7.16pm BST 44 min: A bomb goes up deep into the Wigan defence. Hull KR are keeping their opponents pinned back, right where they want them. Now a knock-on from Havard hands a scrum to Hull KR. They huddle together to celebrate another little win. It will be a big win if they get another score here. Updated at 8.50pm BST 7.13pm BST 42 min: Miski runs hard into contact for Wigan from deep. Will Hull KR look to play more of a territory game, and defend this eight-point lead? 7.10pm BST Willie Peters (Hull KR): “It’s only 40 minutes. We need to go and build it again.” Updated at 7.10pm BST 7.10pm BST Matt Peet (Wigan): “We started really well. We missed a couple of opportunities. Credit to Hull KR, they’ve been excellent. “It’s a great opportunity for us. We need to get our defensive spacing right and get a bit of line speed into it.” Updated at 7.11pm BST 6.54pm BST Half-time reading: Related: Mr Hull KR: real-life hero of Post Office IT scandal bankrolls club to verge of treble glory 6.54pm BST Penalty, and half time: Hull KR 10-2 Wigan A sweet strike through the sticks from Keighran off the tee, under plenty of pressure, and those half time oranges will taste a little sweeter for Wigan now. Updated at 6.55pm BST 6.52pm BST 40 min: Martin is caught offside for Hull KR after the ball bounced off a teammate’s head, and Keighran will kick for the posts to end the half, trying to get Wigan on the board. This would be a big psychological boost. Updated at 6.53pm BST 6.51pm BST 39 min: On balance there’s no doubt Hull KR have won the physical battle in this first half. Their intensity and line speed in defence has been exceptional, after that little wobble at the start. French and Farrell may live to regret those missed chances early doors. 6.49pm BST 38 min: Lewis puts up a bomb for Hull KR deep into Wigan territory. Peet’s side are pinned back and will struggle to get on the board before half time at this rate. 6.46pm BST 34 min: Now Ellis coughs up possession for Wigan and Mikey Lewis pounces in midfield for an easy turnover! In truth there have been errors from both sides, but it’s Hull KR who have steadied the ship after enduring a difficult opening. Wigan, at the moment, appear to be falling apart slightly. A big team talk for Peet incoming. Updated at 6.46pm BST 6.44pm BST 32 min: Wigan’s Harry Smith opts for a low, raking kick for touch from a central position around halfway, seemingly to give his team a chance to reset. They are being put under serious pressure by their opponents who look energised by the lead they’ve built. Updated at 6.44pm BST 6.41pm BST 30 min: Hull KR’s Sauaso Sue has been receiving treatment on the sideline after taking that head knock early on. Updated at 7.09pm BST 6.40pm BST 29 min: Wigan are back up to the full complement of players with O’Neill’s time in the sin-bin over. 6.37pm BST Try! 26 min: Hull KR 10-0 Wigan (Burgess) Magnificent finish in the corner by Burgess! This is looking ominous for Wigan now … A mistake under the posts gave Hull KR a perfect attacking platform off a scrum and they didn’t let their opponents off the hook. Lewis this time chooses to spin the ball left rather than sell another dummy after a well-timed decoy move by the runner on his shoulder. Conversion missed by Martin. Updated at 6.52pm BST 6.35pm BST 26 min: A knock-on under the posts by Wigan and a massive attacking platform for Hull! 6.34pm BST 25 min: “Funny how O’Neill’s tackle goes upstairs for endless reviews, but Wairea Hargreaves head-on-head contact with French doesn’t get a second look,” emails Gareth. 6.34pm BST 24 min: Hull are on top now, not just because Wigan have a player in the bin. Peet is looking increasingly disillusioned as the TV director keeps returning to him sitting in the stand. There is some unusual inaccuracy from Wigan at times and they are having to defend for their lives. 6.30pm BST Try! 20 min: Hull KR 6-0 Wigan (Lewis) What a wonderful score by Lewis, who throws a sensational dummy, shimmies beyond a couple of would-be tacklers and sprints in under the posts! Mourgue converts. Lewis has already put in a couple of big moments in defence. Now he’s put his side in front after they’ve been on the back foot for most of this match! Updated at 7.35pm BST 6.27pm BST 18 min: It’s a yellow card! That’s possibly a bit lucky that it’s not a red? O’Neill is off for 10 minutes. “He should shake the referee’s hand and walk off,” says the co-commentator. Updated at 6.32pm BST 6.26pm BST 18 min: That’s a horrible tackle by O’Neill and the anger of May’s Hull KR teammates was entirely justified. What are the officials going to decide? 6.25pm BST 18 min: Deary me, there’s a huge scrap involving, well, everyone, after a tip tackle by Brad O’Neill on Tyrone May. Updated at 6.29pm BST 6.22pm BST 16 min: So Hull KR have got out of jail a couple of times in the opening quarter of an hour. A high hit on Abbas Miski now brings another penalty for Wigan. Up in the stands Peet, the Wigan head coach, looks somewhat concerned, as if he knows how costly those moments of innaccuracy from his side may prove to be. Updated at 6.23pm BST 6.20pm BST 14 min: It was a magnificent little kick from Marshall that put French in over the try-line … Mikey Lewis ran back to challenge under the posts, and French spilled the ball at the all-important moment. I’m not entirely sure why the video ref needed so many replays at it was pretty obviously a knock-on … Updated at 6.26pm BST 6.17pm BST 13 min: Is French in the for the first try for Wigan? Looks like he’s failed to ground it, on replay. There’s a long check … Updated at 6.17pm BST 6.15pm BST 13 min: Adam Keighran does brilliantly to turn over Mourgue and Hull KR are pinned back near the try-line once again … it looks only a matter of time for Wigan here before the score. Updated at 6.15pm BST 6.14pm BST 12 min: Waerea-Hargreaves is penalised for a clear shoulder charge, with no attempt to wrap his arms, and Wigan look to run the ball from inside their own half again. The score is nil-nil and it’s shaping up to be just as hard-fought as last season’s final when Wigan won 9-2. 6.13pm BST 10 min: Arthur Mourgue, of Hull KR, semi-spills a long kick down the middle at full-back – but it bounces backwards and he’s OK to nab it and sprint back into contact. 6.11pm BST 8 min: After a smart cross-kick, Liam Farrell is teed up wonderfully by a magnificent no-look one-handed pass inside by French … but the second row Farrell spills it with the try-line beckoning! That should be first blood to Wigan. Superb stuff from French. Can Hull KR capitalise? Updated at 6.15pm BST 6.08pm BST 5 min: Trouble for Hull KR? Sue has taken a nasty head knock after getting in the wrong position for a tackle. He looks to be a bit dazed. Anyway, Wigan are firmly in the ascendancy, Hull KR are yet to escape from their own half. Updated at 6.08pm BST 6.07pm BST 4 min: Wigan’s first possession ends with a big up and under near the try-line that is claimed, magnificently, by Joe Burgess under lots of pressure from opponents. A tremendous take in the air. 6.04pm BST 2 min: Sauaso Sue takes it up first for Hull KR. Mikey Lewis eventually looks to kick downfield and Bevan French charges him down! Fortunately for Lewis, the ball squirts to a teammate. And they are playing a song, right now, live! 5.55pm BST John Millington and Sir Billy Boston, two legends of the game, are greeted by the crowd before kick-off. 5.53pm BST Cameras in the changing rooms: The Hull KR players are hugging it out. Wigan are standing in a circle having a final, quick motivational chat. The players will be out on the pitch very soon. This being Old Trafford, will anyone be playing 3-4-3? Updated at 8.51pm BST 5.51pm BST Old Trafford is packed, there’s a massive GRAND FINAL canvas draped across middle of the pitch, and now it’s time for a belting rendition of “Jerusalem” from Camilla Kerslake. 5.48pm BST You’ve got time to have a crack at Paul Campbell’s sports quiz of the week before kick-off: Related: Sports quiz of the week: Cole Palmer, Women’s Cricket World Cup and Cape Verde 5.41pm BST I love pressure too. Can’t get enough of the stuff if I’m honest. 5.41pm BST “It doesn’t get old,” says Wigan head coach Matt Peet of the occasion. “This is why we do it. We need to savour this.” The Sky reporter, Jenna Brooks, asks a good question: Is there a point when Peet steps back, and hands the players the reins? “Yeah, weeks ago. That’s a process that we go through, through the year. “There’s times when it’s coach-heavy and coach-led. But as the season goes on, and lessons are learned, we hand it over. Ultimately we can’t play the game for them. They grip it.” How does he keep pressure off his players? “They love pressure. Pile it on. That’s why we’re here. If you don’t like pressure, sign for another club.” Updated at 5.46pm BST 5.34pm BST “Being the most consistent team [in regular season] means nothing today,” the Hull KR coach, Willie Peters, tells Sky Sports. “It’s about today. Winning the moment. Today’s a big moment, and we need to win it. “We’ve got to be switched on for 80 minutes against this team. I’ve got a lot of faith in the group. Now it’s about going out and expressing themselves.” 5.32pm BST Hull KR’s Challenge Cup win, in early June, was their first silverware in 40 years. Quite an amazing story. 5.30pm BST Here’s a piece looking back to the 2015 Grand Final, by Gavin Willacy, with Josh Walters – who scored the key try for Leeds on that occasion: Ten years ago this week Josh Walters took a simple pass and plunged over the tryline at Old Trafford to score the final try in the Super League Grand Final as Leeds secured their seventh title. There were 73,512 fans inside the stadium and a couple of million more watching at home. He humbly plays down his role in the treble-clinching triumph. “I never say it was the winning try because Kev [Sinfield] still had to kick the two points – my try brought us level and there was still 15 minutes left.” Related: ‘I stood on the shoulders of giants’: Josh Walters on scoring in the 2015 Super League Grand Final 5.20pm BST It is not just the walls of Wigan Warriors’ plush Robin Park training complex that are draped with the historic moments of rugby league’s most famous club. Almost everywhere you turn in the town, there is a nod to the great players and triumphs Wigan recalls with immense pride. The modern era has not exactly been short on supply when it comes to similar memorable moments but in terms of teams and players that will stand the test of time, it is not unreasonable to suggest this current incarnation of Wigan Warriors is on the verge of entering the pantheon of the club’s all-time greats. Replacements: Havard, Nsemba, Mago, Leeming. Referee: Liam Moore 4.55pm BST Neil Hudgell has witnessed highs this summer that he and a generation of Hull KR supporters perhaps thought they would never get to experience, but even in these most euphoric of times the low moments are never far from the forefront of his mind. There have been plenty of those during his 20 years as owner of his boyhood club. Flirtations with administration, relegation from Super League in the most dramatic circumstances in 2016 courtesy of an extra-time defeat by Salford and a 50-0 loss to Leeds in the 2015 Challenge Cup final that Hudgell ranks as his lowest ebb. Related: Mr Hull KR: real-life hero of Post Office IT scandal bankrolls club to verge of treble glory 4.53pm BST We’ve got time to enjoy some pre-match reading before kick-off, which is coming up … don’t forget you can email me with your thoughts, hopes, expectations and even fears. 4.45pm BST Preamble Wigan Warriors stand on the verge of greatness. Victory at Old Trafford today would secure three consecutive Super League titles, placing them in the same bracket as their most legendary predecessors at league’s winningest club. “We’re 80 minutes away from that,” said the captain Liam Farrell, “and I believe we can go down as one of Wigan’s great teams.” The only problem? Their opponents, Hull KR, are buoyant after winning two trophies already this season and will not feel like underdogs, even against a side that have claimed the title two seasons running. Hull KR will be all the more motivated after last season’s Grand Final defeat by same opponents, when they lost 9-2. That sounds more like a terrible poker hand than a rugby score, but shows we are very likely to witness a tense, ultra-competitive tussle over the next few hours. Let’s get it on! Kick-off: 6pm BST
