Ibrahima Konate transfer update emerges as Liverpool 'informed' of decision

The future of Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate has become a bit more certain. The contract of the Liverpool defender is due to expire in the summer and the 26-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid , potentially following in the footsteps of former team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold who made the switch last summer. However, according to David Ornstein from The Athletic, Real have now clarified their position on a potential deal. In a post on X, he stated: "Real Madrid considered Ibrahima Konate but inform Liverpool they have no interest in signing France int'l." He further added that Konate 's "contract situation could still go either way". The Athletic have reported that Real have 'directly and unequivocally' told Liverpool they are not interested in signing the player. The Frenchman was part of the starting line-up during the Reds' humiliating defeat to PSV on Wednesday evening, where he faced criticism for his role in the Dutch side's third goal, reports the Daily Star . Speaking off-air on CBS, ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher exclaimed: "Oh my god, Konate. Oh my god, Konate. Watch Konate here, oh my god!" "I've f****** had enough of them, honest to God. That Konate, I mean that's a sackable offence for the manager, keeping f****** picking him. He should be sacked for that." Konate would later take to social media to address the intense criticism of Liverpool's players. Taking to Instagram, he wrote: "We have to take this moment on the chest. "Criticism is part of football, and we’ll fight back every time and come through this storm. "In these moments, the fans matter most. "The ones who stand with us in the good times and the bad - the ones who sing for us even in the difficult moments! "Your voice and your support mean everything to us. "We know we need to improve and we’ll keep fighting for you. Always."
