Lane Hutson contract: Father’s involvement complicates negotiations

After just two games into the new 2025-2026 season, 13 Montreal Canadiens players have already registered at least one point, leaving just five players who have been blanked from the scoresheet so far – Josh Anderson, Jake Evans, Patrik Laine, Kaiden Guhle and Lane Hutson. Yes, you read that correctly – surprisingly, Hutson has yet to register a point this season. While there’s nothing to worry about, given that he’s playing good hockey despite a few mistakes, one has to wonder if Hutson’s contract negotiations are playing in his head.Last I heard, the Habs’ #48 would have liked to have his contract extension signed before the start of the regular season, but lo and behold, nothing is completed after two games. Negotiations are more complicated than expected between the Hutson clan and Kent Hughes, with several factors at play. And one of those factors is the involvement of Hutson’s father.
