Man held for cheating police job aspirant of ₹18 lakh in Chennai

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested a man for allegedly cheating an Arumbakkam resident of ₹18 lakh by promising him a police job. According to the police, in 2017, Ranjith Kumar of Navalur collected ₹18 lakh in several instalments from Srinivasan of Arumbakkam, claiming he could secure for him a job as a Sub-Inspector in the Police Department. Ranjith Kumar also created a fake appointment order. However, he failed to provide the promised job. Based on a complaint lodged by Srinivasan with the Office of the Commissioner of Police in 2025, the CCB’s Job Fraud Investigation Wing registered a case and launched an inquiry. The probe revealed that Ranjith Kumar had not only cheated Srinivasan but had also defrauded several others by claiming to secure jobs in various Tamil Nadu government departments. Subsequently, the police team arrested Ranjith Kumar, 39, on Monday (October 27, 2025) at Mannargudi in Tiruvarur district. Fake appointment orders, bank passbooks, and other case-related documents were seized from him. After interrogation, the accused was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
