Meghan Markle Returns To Acting After 8-Year Hiatus

Sources confirm to Deadline that Meghan Markle has a role in Amazon MGM Studios’ film Close Personal Friends. While the exact nature of the role in unclear, it marks the Duchess of Sussex’ first role since she announced she was leaving the cast of Suits eight years ago. Markle announced she was departing the USA show in November 2017. She wed Britain’s Prince Harry in 2018.

Multiple outlets have reported that the actress was spotted on set in Pasadena and that she will play herself. The film stars Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid and Henry Golding.

Suits creator Aaron Korsh told Deadline in 2019 that he considered inviting Markle back for cameo in the show’s final season.

“I thought about asking, and I thought about even using audio footage that we have to come up with something, and in the end I didn’t ask, and I just thought, ‘I’m going to respect her new life and not put her in the position of having to ask.’ We decided not to put her in that position so I never asked.”

Markle’s most recent screen venture was the Netflix cooking series With Love, Meghan. The second season of the show struggled to find an audience.

In August, the deal she and Harry have with Netflix became a multi-year, first look deal. The original agreement their media company, Archewell Productions, had with the streamer was believed to be an overall.
