Members of Wishaw Men’s Shed set for open day after range of activities

Members of Wishaw Men’s Shed have been busy over the past few weeks as they continue to establish themselves within the town. Launched by a small group of men earlier this year, it offers the chance to sit and have a talk, and take part in a number of activities. Meetings had been taking place at Cambusnethan Old Parish Church but now the shed has a permanent base in Gowkthrapple Community Centre. Men’s Shed members were on to deliver some delicious cakes to Beechwood Care Home. The cakes are normally donated each week to Wishaw Men’s Shed, but as the Shed was closed for the holidays, Barr’s generously redirected them to the care home. Men’s Shed member Robert McGinty said: “Myself along with our chairman William Kyle, delivered the cakes to Cathy, the manager at Beechwood Care Home. “They were absolutely delighted with the gift and have asked us to pass on their sincere thanks to Barr’s the Bakers for their kindness. “We would also like to express our own gratitude to Martin Barr and Tricia for all their continued support since we began — it is very much appreciated. Meanwhile, the Men’s Shed’s new fleeces have arrived, with the charity’s patron, former World Snooker Champion John Higgins, able to show off the new design with the fleeces being sponsored by cab company United Maxis. Robert added: “We’d like to thank John for kindly offering to donate a percentage of his prize money from now until May next year to Wishaw Men’s Shed. “This is an incredibly generous gesture, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to both John and Denise for their continued support.” The Men’s Shed open day will be held on Saturday, November 15, at Wishaw Bowling Club from 11am to 2pm. Join men’s shed members for teas, coffees, and a light lunch. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Sign up to our newsletters here .
