Morton break silence on leaked voice note amid concerning claims about Dougie Imrie exit

Greenock Morton have issued a statement on a widely circulating voice note which made concerning claims about the nature of Dougie Imrie's exit – saying its contents do not 'accurately represent the events that have taken place.' Imrie was today formally unveiled as Raith Rovers manager, bringing to an end almost four years at Morton, after Record Sport first revealed on Monday that the Kirkcaldy club were closing in on the appointment. A deal was quickly struck and Raith announced the deal on Tuesday, with Imrie set for his dugout debut against Alloa in the Scottish Cup this weekend. In the days after the appointment speculation began to spread about the events at Morton which led to the 42-year-old's exit. They were largely fuelled by a voice note which was shared widely among fans on social media. The audio clip, believed to have originated from a writer for another publication, made concerning claims alleging a behind-the-scenes fallout. But the Greenock club have now spoken out and say the contents of the voice note were inaccurate. A statement reads: "The club have been made aware of a voice note circulating; while we do not wish to get involved in online rumours, we do unfortunately feel it necessary to make a short comment given the nature of the accusations contained. "We would like to thank the author for the way he has approached the situation since the note was unfortunately shared widely, and hope to see him back at Cappielow soon. "Dougie was in the ground yesterday to collect his things and say his goodbyes. He had several positive conversations with members of the Board where he thanked the club for their support over the last four years and wished everyone all the best for the future. "Likewise, as stated on Tuesday, we are extremely grateful for Dougie’s efforts over the last four years at the club and for the impact he has made during his tenure. "The version of events which has unfortunately been widely circulated does not accurately represent the events that have taken place, but given the above, we do not wish to drag this out further by going into the details. "As outlined in the statement on Tuesday, now is the time for us all to come together and get behind the squad ahead of a run of extremely important games, starting with a hugely important cup tie in Peterhead tomorrow."
