Alongside a powered footwear system called Project Amplify and new performance apparel with improved airflow, Nike yesterday debuted a new jacket allowing athletes to regulate their body temperature without having to add or remove layers of clothing.
Leveraging the company’s longtime use of air bladders to improve the cushioning in its shoes, the Nike Therma-FIT Air Milano jacket is made from a soft but durable two-layer composite laminate material that can be inflated or deflated in seconds. When filled with air the jacket is better at trapping body heat for more insulation, and when deflated it provides about as much warmth as a lightweight hoodie, according to Nike. Unlike traditional puffer jackets filled with down or an engineered insulator, the Air Milano is easier to compress and stuff into a bag or suitcase while traveling.
