This growth reflects a rising demand for power across multiple sectors of the economy.

Net electricity production, which includes purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company, also rose by 5.3 percent, reaching 43,532.7 GWh, up from 41,335.1 GWh at the end of October 2024.

These figures indicate ongoing expansion in electricity generation capacity and improved system efficiency nationwide.

In contrast, total water production in the Sultanate showed a slight decline of 0.8 percent during the same period, dropping to approximately 431,102.5 cubic metres from 434,563.2 cubic metres a year earlier.

This trend highlights variability in utility performance influenced by regional demand and operational factors.

At the regional level, Muscat experienced an 11.7 percent decrease in water production, totaling 171,676.0 cubic metres compared to 194,432.6 cubic metres in the previous year.

Conversely, Dhofar Governorate saw a 3.4 percent increase, with output rising to 63,796.5 cubic metres from 61,727.4 cubic metres.

Water production in other governorates increased by 9.7 percent to 195,630.1 cubic metres, compared to 178,403.2 cubic metres during the same period last year, reflecting stronger performance outside the capital region.

— ONA Special Analysis by Omanet | Navigate Oman’s Market The 6.1% increase in electricity production signals robust economic growth and rising energy demand in Oman, presenting opportunities for investment in power infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

However, the contrasting water production trends, particularly the decline in Muscat, highlight potential risks in resource management and the need for efficient water solutions.

Smart investors and entrepreneurs should now consider diversifying into sustainable utilities sectors to capitalize on growing energy needs while addressing regional water scarcity challenges.
