Osimhen nears Ronaldo record after Ajax hat-trick

Victor Osimhen's impeccable hat-trick performance helps Galatasaray beat Ajax. Super Eagles attacker Victor Osimhen is close to matching Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of scoring in eleven consecutive matches, after he scored a hat-trick in the 3-0 victory over Ajax this evening. Osimhen became the first Nigerian since Yakubu Aiyegbeni to score a hat-trick in the Champions League. He also became the top-scoring Nigerian in European competitions, with 25 goals, eclipsing Obafemi Martins. Osimhen inches closer to Ronaldo Victor Osimhen is currently on a remarkable run in UEFA club competition. As of Galatasaray’s 3–1 Champions League win over Bodø/Glimt, he had scored in eight consecutive European matches for Galatasaray. His run includes strikes in high-profile Champions League fixtures, notably the 1–0 win over Liverpool in early October 2025 and the brace against Bodø/Glimt last matchweek, and continued with a hat-trick in Galatasaray’s 3–0 away win at Ajax; however, most of the goals came from the Europa League last season. Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for consecutive Champions League scoring remains 11 straight UCL matches from the 2017/18 season. To equal Ronaldo’s record, Osimhen would therefore need to extend his current run by three more consecutive European matches. However, he can match Robert Lewandowski's record of nine matches in their next UCL game against USG.
