Robotic surgery is yielding good results for pancreatic cancer: Surgeons

Hyderabad: Senior surgical oncologists from Hyderabad on Monday said that robotic surgery on patients with pancreatic cancer is increasingly yielding better results. Survival rates post robotic surgery among patients with pancreatic surgery have improved, they said. Robotic surgery is enabling surgeons to remove cancerous tissue from the pancreas with greater precision and conduct suturing with greater accuracy. The precision due to robotic surgery has reduced complications like leakage, improved recovery time in the ICU, and patients are now able to resume their regular activities much faster, cancer surgeons said in a continuing medical education programme, Pancreatic Cancer 360, held in Hyderabad. The session, titled Pancreatic Cancer 360, was attended by leading cancer experts from various top hospitals in Hyderabad, as well as a large number of surgical oncologists and surgical gastroenterologists from both Telugu states. Over 250 cancer specialists, including Dr Bollineni Bhaskar Rao, CMD, KIMS Hospitals, Dr Madhu Devarsetty, senior surgical oncologist, robotic pancreatic surgeon, cancer specialists Dr M Srinivasulu, Dr T Subrahmanyeswara Rao, Dr KVVN Raju and other senior surgeons, participated.
