Rochdale fire LIVE: Multiple injuries and streets shut as crews battle building blaze

Members of the public are being urged to avoid part of a town centre after a huge fire broke out in a building overnight. Fire crews are battling the blaze at a building in Rochdale, with police officers putting a large cordon in place. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said the fire broke out in a commercial building near Mellor Street. Residents are being asked to avoid the area, with roads in the surrounding area shut. A spokesperson for GMFRS told the Manchester Evening News: "Shortly after 3:15am this morning, several fire engines including the hydraulic platform from Oldham were called to attend a fire involving a commercial building near Mellor Street, Rochdale. Crews arrived quickly and using two ultra high pressure lances and two hose reels to extinguish the fire. "They worked alongside Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service to ensure the area was safe. Crews remain in attendance at this time." The MEN is reporting that a number of people were injured in the fire. Further details on how many people were affected and the severity of their injuries are yet to be confirmed.
