The home of a late film producer known for hosting heavyweight Hollywood stars like Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Stewart and President Ronald Reagan hit the market for $19.99 million almost two decades after it was last purchased and extensively renovated. 1117 North Beverly Drive is listed for sale at $20 million. The six-bed, nine-bath estate near the celebrity-laden area of Beverly Park was owned by MGM Producer Armand “Ardie” Deutsch, grandson of Sears, Roebuck & Company CEO Julius Rosenwald, until his death in 2005. The home has been sold just one time since, for $6.4 million in 2006, and has undergone roughly $4 million in renovations over the last 19 years. The 1.5-acre estate holds four structures totaling almost 7,600 square feet, including a main residence first built in 1959 and a guest and screening house added in 1972. The main home features a bar room, decorative fireplaces, glass walls, a professional-grade kitchen, and the grounds have a solar-heated pool, fire pit and tree house. Deutsch was reportedly known for his host of high-profile connections, many of whom were entertained at his house, including the Reagans, Sinatra, Stewart, billionaire Walter Annenberg and Henry Fonda. Surprising Fact The home hosted one of Reagan's inauguration celebrations, and the property's listing agents say Secret Service security tapes from the event are still hidden in the house's attic. Deutsch placed a particular emphasis on security when building his home, the property includes a gatehouse and accommodations for live-in staff, after he was reportedly targeted as a potential kidnapping and murder victim by Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb as a child. Leopold and Loeb, convicted murderers, reportedly included the then 11-year-old Deutsch on a "short list of possible victims" before kidnapping and killing his schoolmate, Bobby Franks, in 1924. Deutsch was ruled out as a victim for the pair's crime because they didn't want to negatively impact Sears, where Loeb's own father was a vice president, according to the New York Times.
