The second edition of the Kashmir Marathon 2025 was flagged off in Srinagar on Sunday by Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty. The event witnessed an overwhelming turnout of participants from across India and abroad, transforming the scenic Boulevard Road by Dal Lake into a vibrant celebration of fitness and unity. The marathon commenced at 6 a.m. from Polo View, with hundreds of runners sprinting along the iconic lakeside route. Organised jointly by the Department of Tourism, Kashmir, and the J&K Sports Council, the event featured multiple race categories including the full marathon (42 km), half marathon (21 km), and shorter distance runs for amateur participants. This year’s edition drew over 1,500 runners representing 27 states and Union Territories, along with 77 international athletes from 11 countries, underscoring the region’s growing prominence as a global sporting and tourism hub. Meanwhile, Suniel Shetty is an Indian actor, producer, television host, and entrepreneur best known for his contributions to Hindi cinema, along with appearances in Tamil films. Fondly called Anna, Shetty has featured in over 100 films across a career spanning more than three decades. He first gained recognition in the 1990s as an action star through hit films such as Balwaan (1992), Mohra (1994), Dilwale (1994), and Border (1997).
