Taye Diggs Has the Same Celebrity Crush as His 16-Year-Old Son

Taye Diggs is sharing his not so secret celebrity crush.

Diggs, 54, exclusively revealed to Us that he has “so many” secret celebrity crushes, but as of late, a particular 26-year-old Georgia-raised female rapper has caught his eye — as well as his 16-year-old son Walker’s.

“My son and I both enjoy Latto,” Diggs told Us on Tuesday, October 28. “He doesn’t know like how I like her, but he knows that whatever he says, I’ll nod and be like, ‘Yeah, I can see that.’”

Diggs shares Walker with his ex-wife, Idina Menzel, whom he was married to from January 2003 until their separation in December 2013. Their divorce was finalized in 2014.

Diggs told Us that Menzel, 54, does the “heavy-lifting” regarding parenting Walker.

“His mother does the heavy lifting,” Diggs said. “The intensity of a mother-son relationship, I’ll never know, but she takes, you know, she takes everything, I think, just a little harder. Whereas being a man and being a father, when he goes through his teenage, you know, silent sessions, I don’t, I try not to take them as personally as I could, just because I know he’s a teenager. I know he’s a boy, and I know he has hormones.”

“Both of us realized that if we just both think of Walker first, then it kind of falls into place. And that’s exactly what has happened thus far. And luckily, he’s a good kid, so we don’t have to worry about him trying to be, you know, him manipulating us or setting one parent against the other. You know, he’s a good guy, so we just go off of what he gives us. And up to this point, it’s been OK,” Diggs continued.

In his newest film, Terry McMillan Presents: His, Hers & Ours, which premiered on Lifetime on Saturday, November 1, Diggs plays Darius, a single father who finds his teenage daughter (Chloé Flowers) in bed with her boyfriend, Chase, (Tyler Lofton) and immediately kicks him out. Chase’s mother, played by Lesley–Ann Brandt, returns to confront Diggs’ character, only for the two to realize sparks are flying between them. They develop feelings for each other in private, but the real test of their relationship is telling their children.

Though Diggs has never been in a relationship that started this way before, he did open up to Us about his “awkward” dating past. Diggs also shared that he relies on his son Walker’s opinion and the “straight up” advice he gives.

“I’ll meet people, then I’ll show [him] pictures or videos and ask, you know, if he thinks someone’s corny or if someone looks like they’re trying too hard,” Diggs told Us. “We have very similar tastes, but his is a little bit more keen. His is sharper. Whatever he tells me kind of lines up with something that I feel somewhere inside. So he’ll just like, double that, reiterate and that’ll let me know I should listen to my gut.”
