"Thrown forward as a shield" - Islam Makhachev would take Khabib Nurmagomedov and two former UFC champions in a street fight

Islam Makhachev was asked about his team for a street fight and the UFC star did not disappoint. The Russian was speaking to Match TV and shared his dream team, which certainly had an interesting choice or two.Makhachev was reminded of Arman Tsarukyan’s picks for his street fight team. Tsarukyan had nominated Khamzat Chimaev, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Makhachev to fend off everyone.Makhachev also picked Khabib but had two other former UFC champions in his mind. The first was Cain Velasquez and the second, Daniel Cormier.Velasquez is a former two-time UFC heavyweight champion while Cormier is a former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion.The interviewer asked Makhachev if Cormier was too old to fight, and the Russian quipped that ‘DC’ could be used to absorb some blows:“He can be thrown forward as a shield.”Check out Makhachev’s dream fighting team in the post below:Makhachev and Khabib are close to Cormier, and the trio have shared many jokes with each other over the years.Islam Makhachev not keen on becoming a triple championThe UFC has had several two-division champions and Islam Makhachev is also chasing that feat. The Russian will face Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322 for the Australian’s welterweight gold.While the former UFC lightweight champion gears up for the clash, he was asked about becoming the first UFC three-division champion.There have been some names suggested who could make history by completing this feat but Makhachev doesn’t have any such plans.The Russian confirmed that he was happy becoming a two-division champion. In the same interview he added that he couldn’t eat a lot more to move up another division from welterweight."I dream of becoming and remaining a double champion, of going down in history as someone who has won two belts. [A third belt]? I can't eat that much anymore."Makhachev is currently on an incredible 15-fight winning streak with his last loss coming almost a decade ago. Maddalena is also on a great run with 18 straight wins and his last loss coming in 2016.While Makhachev will be moving up a weight class, his championship experience could prove invaluable against Maddalena. This would be the Australian’s first UFC title defence after he beat Belal Muhammad for the gold.Makhachev has been in five UFC title fights so far and has won each of them.
