Two men sentenced to 20-year rigorous imprisonment in gang rape and robbery case in Chennai

The Mahila Court in Chengalpattu has sentenced two men to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting them of raping and robbing a woman at her house, under the Pallikaranai police station limits, in 2022. According to the police, the incident occurred on September 23, 2022, when the two men visited the woman’s house, when she was alone, under the pretext of repairing an air conditioner. They gang-raped her, robbed her of a 20-g gold chain, and threatened her. Based on information from the woman, a case was registered at the Pallikaranai police station, under Sections 450 (house trespass to commit an offence), 342 (wrongful confinement), 323 (voluntarily causing simple hurt), 354 A (sexual harassment), 376D (gang rape), 392 (robbery), and 506 (ii)(criminal intimidation). Following an investigation, the Pallikaranai police arrested A. Arputharaj, 29, and S. Arun, 31, of Purasawalkam. The case was taken up by the Mahila Court in Chengalpattu, and during the trial, 27 witnesses were examined and 15 exhibits were marked in support of the prosecution. Following due legal procedures, the court found both the accused guilty. The court also imposed fines on them.

The case was taken up by the Mahila Court in Chengalpattu, and during the trial, 27 witnesses were examined and 15 exhibits were marked in support of the prosecution. Following due legal procedures, the court found both the accused guilty.

The court also imposed fines on them.
