What Is Garrett Wilson's Timeline for Return to Jets from Knee Injury?

The New York Jets will be without their star wide receiver for a handful of games. The team announced Thursday that Garrett Wilson has been placed on injured reserve, meaning he'll have to miss at least four games. Wilson suffered a knee sprain in Sunday's win over the Cleveland Browns. Wilson has had a frustrating 2025 season amid multiple injuries. The fourth-year receiver out of Ohio State missed Weeks 7 and 8 against the Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals after suffering a hyperextended knee against the Denver Broncos. Luckily, he avoided a serious injury, but still had to spend some time on the sidelines. He returned to action last week against the Browns, but saw three targets and no receptions before exiting with the knee sprain. ESPN's Rich Cimini reported that Wilson won't need knee surgery, which is a silver lining in what has been a forgetful season. In seven games, Wilson has recorded 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns. That's far from his typical production, as he's started his career with three consecutive seasons with 1,000-plus receiving yards. The Jets committed to Wilson this offseason, giving him a four-year, $130 million contract extension that ties him to the franchise through 2030. They doubled down on their commitment earlier this month when they opted not to trade Wilson despite dealing a handful of key players like Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams. Even though New York is fully in rebuild mode, it clearly views the 25-year-old Wilson as a key piece of its future. The Jets have won back-to-back games but are still far from playoff contention at 2-7. They'll look to salvage what is left of the season by picking up a few more wins, though that task becomes more difficult without Wilson on the field.
