Tim Curry Addresses Crowd During Rare Public Appearance for “Rocky Horror”'s 50th Anniversary: 'Sitting in a Wheelchair, So Get Over It!'

Tim Curry is embracing the love for all things Transylvanian. The actor, 79, attended Cinespia’s screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Hollywood Forever Cemetery alongside his costar, Barry Bostwick. The friends posed for photos at the special event, in celebration not just of spooky season, but the film's 50th anniversary. It was a special outing for the actor, whose public appearances have diminished since his near-fatal stroke in 2012. Addressing the crowd ahead of the film's screening, Curry was witty as ever as he told fans, "I'd like to tell you that I haven't been legless before tonight, but it wouldn't be true. Unfortunately, I'm currently sitting in a wheelchair, so get over it!" The crowd erupted in a show of support for the actor, who has kept working despite his health struggles. Curry also poked fun at Bostwick on stage, joking, "When Barry was being introduced, he was introduced as an OG, and I'm assuming that means 'Old Geezer,'" he laughed. Bostwick shared fond memories of Curry from when they first met, telling the crowd, "[Curry] was the one who came up and gave us the biggest hug and gave us the warmest welcome." "I'll never forget that. We were there only five weeks, it took to make this movie, and the moment that Susan and I and Meatloaf... when we got off the plane, you hugged us and said, 'Welcome, welcome.' Welcome to your world, and we've been there for 50 years. It wouldn't be the same without you." Fans cheered and screamed, "I love you," at Curry, to which he replied, "I love you more. I love you much more." Earlier this year, the actor appeared in Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror — a documentary by Linus O'Brien, son of creator Richard O’Brien, examining his father's creative brainchild. There, Curry recalled setting the tone when the stage show debuted in London in the 1970s. "It was a really good time. It was very creative and I remember reaching a crisis fairly early on because I would snap out an order to somebody and they wouldn’t quite jump to it," Curry remembered. "And I stopped and sort of had a rather small tantrum and said, ‘Look I can’t be powerful if you don’t accept the power and at least cringe a little.’ So that took care of that pretty quickly." Curry continued, "I mean, they were awfully good about that. Acting is a very competitive sport and you have to take it on, like a prize fight. And I’ve lost a few in my time.”
