Shirley A. Lloyd

Shirley A. Lloyd, 86, a lifelong resident of Keene, will be greatly missed by many with her passing on Sept. 26, 2025, at her home in Keene. Her parents, Forrest “Babe” and Bertha (Dubois) Cummings, welcomed their daughter into the world on Oct. 28, 1938, in Keene. She was a 1956 graduate of Keene High School. Shirley began her career in 1982 working with the Grange Mutual and later the Peerless Insurance Company in Keene, retiring in 2004. Her favorite times were those spent caring for children. She loved babysitting for many and had a special way with all those she cherished in this role. She set a good example for her own children, and later cared for her parents, a role reversed from her childhood. She was a generous and giving person, putting others first before herself. A devote parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Church in Keene, Shirley was a Eucharistic Minister during the weekly masses. Shirley was predeceased by a son, Steven Lloyd; a grandson, Will Lloyd; a brother, Carl Cummings; and a sister, Lorraine Pratt. She will be greatly missed by many, especially her husband of 62 years, Texas B. Lloyd of Keene; her two sons, Brian A. Lloyd and his wife, Tammy, of Rindge and Philip W. Lloyd of Keene; her grandchildren: Nicholas Lloyd and his partner, Angela Duval; Breana Vermette and her husband, Brennan; Spencer Lloyd, Cullen Lloyd and Carson Lloyd; her great-grandchildren, Travis Vermette, Aidan Lloyd, Braden Lloyd, Connor Lloyd, Isaiah Lloyd, Hailey Lloyd, Anita Lloyd and Ava Lloyd; and a daughter-in-law, Jodi Lloyd, of Troy. A graveside service and committal with family and friends was held on Oct. 2, 2025, in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Keene. Prayers were offered by the Very Rev. Alan Tremblay, Pastor of the Parish of the Holy Spirit in Keene. The Foley Funeral Home of Keene was entrusted with Mrs. Lloyd’s care. Donna Ann (Goodwin Blanchard) Miller

In Loving Memory of Donna Ann (Goodwin Blanchard) Miller of Alstead. March 16, 1942 — April 25, 2025 Donna Ann (Goodwin Blanchard) Miller began her heavenly journey on the evening of April 25, 2025, at the age of 83, peacefully surrounded by the love of family and friends. A lifelong New Hampshire native, Donna was born in Laconia on March 16, 1942, the beloved daughter of Ernest F. and Madelyn Sinclair Goodwin. She graduated from Laconia High School in 1960, where she joyfully balanced her days between cheerleading and playing the clarinet. Her innate compassion and drive to care for others led her to Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital’s School of Nursing in Hanover, where she graduated in 1963 as a registered nurse and later became an instructor to first-year students. In 1963, Donna married her middle school sweetheart, Raymond T. Blanchard of Laconia. Together, they built a loving home in Swanzey Center, raised two children and founded Blanchard’s Butcher Block in 1974. After Ray’s passing in 1978, Donna carried on with remarkable strength, determination and grace — managing the family business and, more importantly, providing a deeply loving and stable life for her children. As Donna often said, “When a door closes, a window opens.” In 1979, she found that open window in the form of true love when she married Shelby “Dutch” Miller. Their 38 years together were filled with unwavering devotion, faith and adventure. Their family was their greatest gift and together they raised five children. Dutch’s work took them to new cities for months at a time, where they made lifelong friends and deepened their shared love of spirituality and church life. When home they found their community at the United Church of Christ in Keene, spending many cherished hours with beloved friends, giving back leading devotion groups and Donna’s most cherished times with her Loaf & Ladle friends making soups and breads for those in need. Donna was that kind of woman — the heart of her home and the anchor of her family. She was a devoted and supportive wife, mother, Grandy, sister and friend. Her home was her haven: the joyful center of family gatherings, Christmas magic and Easter egg hunts crafted with tender care and creativity. She cheered from bleachers, mowed her own lawns, tended bees and gardens, canned homemade spaghetti sauce and salsa (family favorites), baked apple pies and loved nothing more than spending time with those she cherished. York Beach, Maine held a sacred place in Donna’s heart. It was where five generations of her family made summer memories — from her own childhood days of wave riding with her father and cousins, to teaching her grandchildren the same simple joy. Adventurous in spirit, Donna’s life was as full as it was grounded. She ice-fished and waterskied on Lake Winnipesaukee, learned to ride a motorcycle at age 60, skied Mount Sunapee well into her 70s and, in retirement, roamed the country and Canada with Dutch and their camper — exploring National Parks and even trying her hand at dude ranching. Even after Dutch’s passing, Donna continued to embrace life with joy. In her last years, she found heartfelt companionship with Charles “Chuck” Prigge. Together, they shared quiet happiness — daily YMCA workouts, peaceful moments on the docks of Spofford Yacht Club, long meandering car rides and, always, laughter — cherished even when words began to fade. Donna is lovingly remembered by her children: Robin (Blanchard) Laughinghouse (partner Ross Gott) of New London; Eric Blanchard (partner Robin Hooper) of Alstead; Shelly (Miller) Kernozicky (husband Randy) of Keene; Richard Miller (wife Julie) of Weston, Mass. and Naples, Fla.; her brother, Ernie Goodwin (wife Jane) of Laconia; and her dear companion, Charles “Chuck” Prigge of Keene. She adored her “magnificent eight” grandchildren: Kaanan Kain of Keene; Chelsey Laughinghouse (husband Adrian Whitcomb) of Sunapee; Casey Laughinghouse of Somerville, Mass.; Thoreau Blanchard of Alstead; Jordan Kernozicky (partner Mackenzie Posner) of Gilsum; Katie Miller of Weston, Mass.; Ryan Miller of Cambridge, Mass.; and Andrew Miller (wife Tory) of Lynchburg, Va. Her joy multiplied with the birth of her great-grandchild, Kai Whitcomb. In her final chapter, Donna found deep love and care at Woodcrest Village Assisted Living in New London. During her last 18 months in the Courtyard Memory Care community there, she gained another “family” — those who made her feel safe, cherished and loved. The family will remain forever grateful for their compassion. A Remembrance and Celebration of Life will be held on Oct. 23, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (formal remarks at 1:15 p.m.) at Stonewall Farm in Keene. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Donna Miller’s memory to: Woodcrest Village Assisted Living, 356 Main St., New London, NH 03257.

Harold 'Dave' Emerson Davis

Harold “Dave” Emerson Davis, age nearly 90, of Jaffrey, died at home on Oct. 4, 2025. Dave was born Oct. 18, 1935, to Harold Emerson and Mary Brown Davis, in Peterborough. He grew up on his grandfather’s family farm in Jaffrey. His mother was a schoolteacher and his father was a chef at the Monadnock Inn (which they owned for a time) and later at the Woodbound Inn. As a teenager, Dave and his brother Peter ran up and down Mount Monadnock daily, bringing refreshments to the snack bar on the summit. He attended Phillips Academy Andover on scholarship, and later enrolled at Dartmouth College before leaving to join the Army, where he served in the Signal Corps. After his service, he graduated from the University of New Hampshire, class of 1963. Dave married Dorothy Newbegin in 1956. They lived in California, Alaska, New York, Pennsylvania, Andover, Mass. and Wisconsin before settling in Groton, Mass. for 53 years. They had two children, Robert Emerson and Katharine Brown Davis. They were devoted to family and were particularly dedicated to hosting large family Thanksgivings at their home every year. An avid photographer and woodworker, Dave documented every event for decades and filled their home with handcrafted furniture. An engineer and an entrepreneur at heart, Dave held multiple patents and worked in industry and government contracting. Dave was proud to have started two businesses, “one that failed and one that succeeded,” as he described it. His successful business, Wastewater Alternatives, was inspired when Dave and his brother discovered that a house they were building required a leach field bigger than its lot. Dave declared that “there must be a better way.” The company was founded in 1992 to produce his own design of septic systems that allowed people to safely build on smaller lots and closer to waterfronts by performing the biological functions of a leach field within a tank. He was awarded the University of New Hampshire College of Engineering and Physical Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award in 2015. He participated in a number of organizations that benefitted his communities and the people around him, including the Nashua River Watershed Association, which reflected his ongoing interest in clean water. He was a longtime member of the Groton Lions Club and later the Jaffrey-Rindge Rotary Club. He was also a dedicated fan of the Patriots and UNH football. Dave is predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy. He is survived by his good friend and brother, Peter Davis; his children, Kate Davis and her husband Brian Michalowski, and Rob Davis and his wife Chris Schloder; his grandchildren, Nik Bordia and his wife Randi-Lynn Santa Cruz, Sam Bordia, Julia Davis and Andrew Davis; his great-grandchildren, Astrid Bordia and Solaris Fajardo; his nieces, nephew, grandniece and grandnephew; sister-in-law Anne Webb and her husband Cassius Webb; and his longtime friend and recent partner, Diane Temple. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 13, 2025, at First Church in Jaffrey, 14 Laban Ainsworth Way, Jaffrey. There will be a viewing before the service in the First Church Parish Hall at 1:30 p.m. The service will be followed immediately by a burial in the Old Burial Ground, and a reception in the First Church Parish Hall. Those who wish to honor Dave’s memory with a donation may consider First Church in Jaffrey (address above) or The Park Theatre (theparktheatre.org), both of which held special places in his heart.
