Summerland resort launches new Christmas season experience (Summerland)

There is a new Christmas event coming to town in Summerland. From Nov. 22 to Dec. 31, the Waterfront Resort & Spa is transforming into a holiday experience for both locals and those staying for a vacation. "Signature events include enchanting Creative Christmas craft workshops on November 22 featuring bauble- and card-making with Greta Loeppky, wreath creation with Simply Floral, and a gourmet supper board paired with wine," reads a press release from the resort. "December weekends will be filled with curated experiences such as the Light Up the Vines Package, which includes guided wine and brewery tastings with shuttle service. Guests can also enjoy Sips & Snacks and Suds & Snacks evenings featuring Lightning Rock Winery, Detonate Brewing, and Chefs with Thyme." Plus, there will be hot chocolate nightly, movie screenings, gingerbread house decorating, and more. "Christmas in Summerland is about slowing down, making memories, and celebrating together,” says Lisa Jaager, general manager. “We’re excited to welcome guests to a season filled with sparkle, flavour, and connection.” Find out more on their website here.

Winners all around: Penticton's Business Excellence Awards names 2025 winners (Penticton)

The results are in! Penticton's business community celebrated excellence at the 38th Annual Business Excellence Awards this weekend, with a packed ballroom full of the who's-who of the town celebrating another wonderful year of success and achievement. The event was Moulin Rouge-themed, and saw delicious food, wine entertainment and connection. Businesses and individuals were lauded in a broad range of categories, selected by a committee of sixteen local leaders through a thorough process including in-depth interviews with nominees. The big award, Business of the Year, went to Cannery Brewing. "Cannery Brewing is at the heart of Penticton’s craft beer scene, blending exceptional beer, locally inspired food, and welcoming experiences. Their team leads with creativity, care, and collaboration, supporting local events and fostering community connections," reads a press release from the Penticton and Wine Country Chamber of Commerce. "Through innovation, teamwork, and dedication, Cannery Brewing continues to raise the bar as Penticton’s Business of the Year." There were many others celebrated as well. Business Leader of the Year: Ian Lindsay of the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation The family of Grandma Grace Greyeyes, a much-loved and respected Penticton Indian Band elder who passed away in late 2023, was given with the David Kampe Legacy award in honour of Greyeyes' legacy of kindness and strength. "Grandma Grace was also a residential school survivor, and while it is almost impossible to comprehend the trauma someone would carry after living through that experience, she fought to be loving and always looked to help others," reads the Chamber press release. "Even though she is no longer with us, Grandma Grace will always be a quiet light that will remind us to live with heart, respect, and love for one another." Meeting planned to discuss Ignite the Arts Festival amidst Penticton Art Gallery turmoil (Penticton)

Another year of Ignite the Arts Festival is around the corner in the spring, and planning needs to get underway. With much change and turmoil at the Penticton Art Gallery, which has presented the festival in the past and has committed to doing so this spring at least, albeit with unclear details on the organization structure at this time, a group of Ignite organizers and interested parties is hosting a community information meeting tonight, Monday Oct. 27, at Tempest Theatre. Anyone interested in learning more about this year's Ignite, or has any questions, is welcome to join. Topics discussed will include the basics — what's going on, who is in charge, how does Ignite continue to grow. If possible, RSVP to ignitetheartsfestival@gmail.com so the hosts have an idea of numbers. As well, Ignite artist applications are open online here through Nov. 23, as well as volunteer applications. Tickets are expected to go on sale for Nov.1. The meetingtonight runs from 6 to 7 p.m. at Tempest on Eckhardt Avenue .

Penticton Fire Department hosting open house with family-friendly activities (Penticton)

The Penticton Fire Department is inviting everyone for a peek at their inner workings at an upcoming open house. On Sunday, Nov. 2, the whole family is welcome at Firehall #2 at 285 Dawson Avenue to enjoy tours, demonstrations, the chance to talk to members of the crew, and a BBQ hot dog lunch by donation to support local causes. Plus, bring your leftover pumpkin from Hallowe'en, because there will be a "Pumpkin Drop" by donation from the heights of a PFD ladder. The event will be on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is free to attend.
