The Star Wars: A New Hope Manga Is Getting A Premium Art Book Edition

It might have taken decades to be realized, but when Star Wars finally got a manga adaptation in 1997, it was a work of art. Illustrated by mangaka Hisao Tamaki, his work on capturing the magic of Star Wars: Episode 4 - A New Hope into a manga format is being collected into a new art book by Dark Horse Books. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, Tamaki's original art boards for the adaptation are being collected into a new hardcover release that will be released on June 16, 2026. Priced at $50, The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope - The Manga is now available to preorder through Amazon. The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope - The Manga, Vol. 1 only covers the initial part of the New Hope manga, but the official Star Wars manga series continued beyond Tamaki's run with similar adaptations of The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and the first prequel film, The Phantom Menace--all of which are handled by different artists. The final volume's English version launched in 2015, and for now, there are no signs that the remaining five mainline films will be turned into manga. Nevertheless, the Star Wars manga is a novel way to re-experience (a portion of) the beloved saga. Print versions are hard to find, but you can grab digital Kindle editions of the Star Wars manga's 14-volume run at Amazon. The mainline Star Wars films aren't the only Star Wars stories to get manga adaptations. There's also an ongoing manga version of the popular Disney+ streaming series The Mandalorian. Illustrated by Yusuke Osawa, the series has three volumes so far, each of which is a word-for-word recreation of the tale of Din Djarin and Grogu. Star Wars also recently got the anime treatment with the Star Wars: Visions anthology series on Disney+. The anime's third season premieres soon, and you can prepare with two books inspired by the series. Star Wars: Visions - The Manga Anthology retells several of the stories from the first Visions season with art by Kamome Shirahama, Yusuke Osawa, and others. Meanwhile, Star Wars: Visions - Treasury Edition tells two new stories--one penned by manga legend Takashi Okazaki that continues the Visions short "The Duel," and the other by Peach Momoko that dives deep into the cult of the Sith. There are also several manga series that tell all-new stories from the Star Wars galaxy, including The Legends of Luke Skywalker, which adapts Ken Liu's novel of the same name, and the six-volume Star Wars: The Edge of Balance manga series, which is set several centuries before the prequel film trilogy during the High Republic era. The upcoming Star Wars: Path of the Lightsaber, Vol. 1 will kick off a new series set during the sequel trilogy that follows all-new character Nioka, who dreams of one day becoming a Jedi. After she serendipitously finds a lost lightsaber, she's pulled into the conflict between the First Order and the Republic Resistance. The first volume launches on November 11 and is available to preorder at Amazon. The Deluxe Edition features a new cover capturing the iconic lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, a transparent acetate jacket featuring a foil-stamped silhouette of Darth Vader, red-stained page edges, a ribbon bookmark, and bonus insights from author Matthew Stover. You can pair this with Star Wars: Master of Evil, a direct sequel to Revenge of the Sith that explores the early days of Anakin's rebirth as Darth Vader. Tasked with building his own lightsaber, Vader sets out to cement the Galactic Empire's power and become the titular "Master of Evil."
