Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman hang up their dancing shoes

It’s the end of an era for Strictly Come Dancing fans, as Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have confirmed they are stepping down as hosts. The pair, who have been hosting the show together for over a decade, will make their final appearance during this year’s Christmas Day special. Daly first joined Strictly in 2004, bringing the show back into the spotlight alongside the legendary Bruce Forsyth. Winkleman joined the main show in 2014, after co-hosting the results show, and together they became the first female duo to helm a primetime TV show, a major milestone in British television. Over the years, the duo have seen it all: shocking eliminations, glittery performances, and tear-jerking moments that had fans glued to their screens. They were there for Jowita and Johannes’ flawless routines, Oti Mabuse’s jaw-dropping choreography, Ann Widdecombe’s unexpected samba that had viewers in stitches, and countless emotional finales and surprise wins that had everyone reaching for the tissues. They’ve also had to steer the show through stormy waters. In 2024, a misconduct and bullying investigation rocked Strictly, leading to the exit of two professional dancers and allegations involving a former contestant. Through it all, Tess and Claudia remained the calm, sparkling constants at the heart of the show. In a joint leaving statement, the pair said: “It’s been an absolute joy to host Strictly. We have loved every moment, every laugh, every glittery dress. The decision to leave together was a very special one, and we will cherish our time on the show forever.” Fans took to social media to share their sadness and appreciation. One wrote, “End of an era. Thank you, Tess and Claudia, for all the joy and sparkle you’ve brought to our screens.” Another asked, “Who’s going to make us laugh and cry like they do? They’ll be sorely missed!” Even former judge Shirley Ballas admitted, “It’s broken my heart. They are remarkable ladies and the show won’t be the same without them.” So, who will take over? BBC bosses are reportedly weighing up names including Holly Willoughby, Amanda Holden, Alison Hammond, Rylan Clark, Alan Carr, and Clara Amfo. Fans are already speculating, with some hoping for a similar duo, while others are crossing their fingers for a fresh, unexpected pairing. Whoever it is, they’ll have some mighty big sparkly shoes to fill. For now, it’s the end of a glitter-filled chapter in Strictly Come Dancing history, but the show must go on, and it’s time for someone else to make sure the professionals and their celebrity partners keep dancing.
