Former CFMEU boss John Setka arrested

The former leader of the union’s powerful Victorian division was hit with the charges on Wednesday, The Age reports. The masthead reports Mr Setka has been charged with seven counts of using a carriage service to menace. A carriage service conveys communication and examples include mobile phones, social media and email. If convicted, the maximum penalty for the offence is three years in jail. Mr Setka stepped down from his position as CFMEU Victorian state secretary in July last year, following allegations of widespread misconduct in the union. Later that year, the federal government forced the construction division of the controversial union into administration. More to come.

‘Money’: Star’s big sledge after shock axing

Bailey and fellow hosts Kip Wightman and Oates lost their Brisbane breakfast show on KIIS 97.3 last Thursday, with Bailey writing that seven people had been caught up in the shock cull. “Seven amazing, talented, kind and compassionate people lost their jobs last Thursday,” she posted to Instagram on Sunday. “Our industry cares more about money than connection. “But we are here for the next eight weeks and I know this may be my last ever commercial radio gig so after 35 years I desperately want to leave on a high and be number one! “So 8.20 tomorrow on KIIS 97.3 Brisbane we will address it all but please support us!” Audio giant ARN Media owns the KIIS network, which boasts radio titans Kyle Sandilands and Jackie Henderson in Sydney and Melbourne. In a statement, a company spokeswoman said KIIS 97.3 would soon launch a “new, live, and local breakfast show that will be bold, entertaining, and fast moving”, with the new line-up to be revealed next week. “We want to thank Robin, Kip, Corey, and the entire team, both on and off air for their hard work, creativity, and commitment to the Brisbane audience,” the spokeswoman said. “Their contribution has been significant and will be celebrated in the weeks ahead. “In 2026, KIIS 97.3 will launch a new, live, and local breakfast show that will be bold, entertaining, and fast moving. “The new show will be officially announced at ARN’s Upfronts next Wednesday.” The trio delivered solid ratings for ARN, capturing about 10 per cent of the breakfast audience according to the most recent GfK radio survey. Bailey said she wanted to go out with a bang in her final eight weeks. “I would like to leave on the biggest high as number one and know that we did our best and tried our hardest to make fun and connect to a city we all love,” she said. “Thank you Brissy I owe you so much!” ARN Media is a publicly listed company with a market capitalisation of about $170m. The company reported $142.3m in revenues for the six months to June 30, a 7 per cent decline from the prior year. Net profits, meanwhile, slumped 89 per cent to just $800,000.
