Businessman, 61, faces murder probe after 'stabbing his wife to death' following 'girls' trip' to Turkey

A businessman is facing a murder investigation after his 'beautiful, strong, fearless' wife was stabbed to death just two weeks after she returned from a holiday with a female friend in Turkey. Gavin Shaw, 61, was arrested after Michele Kennedy was attacked with a kitchen knife during a row at a house in Warrington, Cheshire earlier this month. Described as a 'larger-than-life character' by her grieving family, 55-year-old Ms Kennedy worked as a security guard for G4S. She had previously called Shaw a 'wonderful husband' and 'the best' in Facebook posts. Ms Kennedy reportedly managed to make her way to the street following the assault but collapsed outside. She was taken to Aintree Hospital by paramedics in a critical condition and died five days later despite efforts to save her. Shaw was initially charged with attempted murder and was remanded in custody to face trial following a court hearing ten days ago at Warrington magistrates court. He is currently being investigated for murder. Today Ms Kennedy's devastated family paid tribute to the victim, who has worked for employers including train operators MerseyRail and Avanti and the Creamfields Music Festival. She had recently been holidaying at a hotel in Marmaris with a female friend and was still posting pictures of her trip three days before the fatal assault. In a statement they said: 'Michele was a much-loved daughter, mother, sister, auntie and nana. 'She was a larger-than-life character who would leave a lasting impression on all that met her, who would help anyone, was beautiful, strong, fearless and one of a kind. 'The loss of her life has left a massive hole in our family, and we know that her friends and colleagues who were involved in her life will feel the same. 'We would like to offer our extended thanks to all the emergency services that attended the scene and any kind person that tried to help. We will miss her very much.' Shaw, who runs a tiling business, is thought to have wed Ms Kennedy in 2016. She would post pictures of the beaming couple on Facebook plus photographs of flowers he had bought for her. One message she posted read: 'I do love him, the best xxx.' A picture of Shaw on holiday showed him with a tattoo on his right arm saying: 'Michele.' On October 13 at 4pm, Cheshire Police received multiple reports of an incident at a residential address on Manchester Road, Woolston. They attended to find Ms Kennedy seriously ill in the street as paramedics and passers-by tried to help her. A police spokesman said: 'She was taken to Aintree hospital but despite the best efforts of all those involved, Michele Kennedy passed away on Saturday 18 October. 'Her family are currently being supported by specially trained officers. 'Preliminary results from a Home Office post-mortem examination have indicated that Michele died as a result of stab wounds. 'A murder investigation into her death has been launched and a 61-year-old man remains in custody.' Shaw, of Manchester Road in Woolston, appeared in court on October 15 wearing a grey jumper. He confirmed his full name, date of birth, and address but was not asked to enter a plea. He is next due before Liverpool Crown Court on November 11.
