Chhattisgarh: Badesetti becomes first Maoist-free village, setting model for peace, development

New Delhi, Oct 25 (SocialNews.XYZ) Once a symbol of fear and insurgency, Badesetti village in the Bastar region has scripted a new chapter in Chhattisgarh’s history by becoming the state’s first Maoist-free Gram Panchayat. Once caught in the shadow of Maoist violence, this remote village is now a model of peace, development, and self-reliance. Under the Maoist Rehabilitation Policy, the Panchayat and Rural Development Department has sanctioned Rs 1.10 crore for the holistic development of the village. The funds are being utilised to improve infrastructure, strengthen local governance, and ensure the return of essential public services that were once disrupted by Maoist activities. Today, Badesetti stands as a symbol of transformation. The same residents who once feared venturing out after sunset now actively participate in village development meetings and digital transactions. With the reopening of bank accounts that were dormant during years of insurgency, the people of Badesetti are now embracing Digital India, using UPI payments for daily transactions, a small but powerful sign of confidence and progress. The Anganwadi centre, which had been shut down for nearly three years due to Maoist threats, has now reopened. Workers have returned, and children once again receive early education and nutritional support. Government schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Jal Jeevan Mission and Solar Lighting Projects have brought clean drinking water and reliable power to the community. Construction of a Panchayat Bhawan and a primary health centre is underway, while the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana has connected the village to nearby towns with a newly built concrete road, making transport and trade easier than ever. A villager said, “Yes, the construction work in our Panchayat has been completed, and everything is functioning properly now. Earlier, the situation was very different, but now a real improvement is visible. Bus services have started, electricity has reached every home, and a concrete road connects us to nearby areas. Development is clearly taking shape here.” Another villager shared how peace has returned to the region, saying, “Earlier, my entire area was under Maoist influence, but now the presence has completely ended. There are no signs of any Maoist activity anymore; the area is fully free and peaceful.” Badesetti’s transformation has become a source of inspiration for nearby villages still struggling under the remnants of extremism. Local authorities believe that the village’s success story can serve as a model of peace through development for the rest of Bastar. Officials say continued investment in education, health, and employment generation will ensure that this peace is lasting. From fear to freedom, and from darkness to development, Badesetti has truly become the face of a new, self-reliant Bastar. Source: IANS

PM Modi thanks Trump for Diwali wishes, calls for ‘united’ fight against terror

New Delhi, Oct 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday thanked US President Donald Trump for the Diwali greetings and expressed hope to stand united against all forms of terrorism. While speaking to reporters during his Diwali Party at the White House, Trump said he spoke to Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday and the two sides are "working on some great deals between our countries". "I just spoke to your Prime Minister today. We had a great conversation. We talked about trade. We talked about a lot of things, but mostly the world of trade. He's very interested in that," he said. PM Modi also took to X and said, "Thank you, President Trump, for your phone call and warm Diwali greetings. On this festival of lights, may our two great democracies continue to illuminate the world with hope and stand united against terrorism in all its forms." Trump hosted a special Diwali event at the White House, where he termed Prime Minister Modi "a great person" and said he loves "the people of India". The event was attended by the Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra, the new US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, FBI Director Kash Patel and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. Leading business leaders from the Indian diaspora were also part of the celebrations. Trump lit the diya in the Oval Office, calling it "a symbol of faith in the victory of light over darkness" and extended his "warmest wishes to the people of India". He previously asserted that he had resolved the dispute between India and Pakistan in May. India refuted this claim, stating that the ceasefire agreement was reached only after the Pakistani Army requested the Indian side to halt the offensive. However, Trump reiterated this during the Diwali celebration. "We did talk a little while ago about let's have no wars with Pakistan. The fact that trade was involved, I was able to talk about that. And we have no war with Pakistan and India. That was a very, very good thing," he said. Source: IANS

Sabarimala gold case: SIT seizes Devasom minutes book as probe widens

Sabarimala, Oct 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has seized the Travancore Devasom Board’s minutes book from 2019, which contained the decision to hand over the gold sheets and plating materials to now-arrested Unnikrishnan Potti. The seizure has become a key turning point in the ongoing probe into the alleged misappropriation of gold used for plating the Sabarimala temple’s sacred structures. In a report submitted to the Kerala High Court, the SIT said that members and employees of the Devasom Board had acted on behalf of certain individuals, and that manipulation was evident from the official records themselves. Crucial documents recovered during the verification process have shed light on the irregularities. The SIT also pointed out that the Board had been reluctant to hand over records, producing them only after repeated requests. With the court observing that even the present Board appeared to have attempted to conceal the theft, both the Devasom Board and the State government have come under scrutiny. The investigation is continuing to identify those responsible for the missing gold. The crisis deepened after the High Court noted that the cover-up of the 2019 gold loss appeared deliberate, and that this year’s gold-plating work had again been entrusted to the same sponsor, Unnikrishnan Potti. The court directed that the inquiry should not be confined to the misappropriation involving the Dwarapalaka panels and side panels alone, but should extend to uncover the larger conspiracy behind the incident. Following the court’s observations, the trajectory of the Sabarimala gold theft investigation has shifted sharply, bringing the Devasom Board and the government under intense pressure to ensure a transparent and accountable probe. In a late-night development, a team of top Kerala BJP leaders called on visiting President Droupadi Murmu at the Raj Bhavan, where she is staying. On Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu will pray at the famed Sabarimala temple, becoming the second President of India to do so. V.V. Giri was the first president to visit Lord Ayyappa’s sacred abode. Source: IANS

Puducherry, Oct 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) In view of the heavy rain warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Puducherry government has declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions on Wednesday. Home and Education Minister A. Namassivayam announced that all government and private schools, as well as colleges in the two regions, will remain closed as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students. The northeast monsoon, which has intensified over the region, has brought continuous downpours since Monday night, prompting authorities to issue advisories urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Further updates regarding the reopening of institutions will depend on the evolving weather situation, the minister added. Meanwhile, following similar alerts, several coastal districts of Tamil Nadu have also declared holidays for educational institutions on Wednesday. In Chennai, only schools -- both government and private -- will remain closed, while in Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Kallakurichi, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, and Thiruvallur districts, both schools and colleges have been ordered shut as a precautionary measure. According to the IMD, the deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, formed early Tuesday morning around 5:30 a.m., is expected to intensify further within the next 24 hours. The system is moving in a west-northwest direction toward the northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh coasts, and could strengthen into a low-pressure zone before making landfall between the Tamil Nadu–Andhra coastline. Strong winds reaching 45–55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, are expected along the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to rough conditions. District administrations have been placed on high alert, with disaster response teams deployed across coastal areas. The Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority (TNSDMA) has directed officials to ensure relief camps are operational and equipped to handle possible flooding and power disruptions. WFP calls for greater border access to expand food aid in Gaza

Geneva, Oct 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) The ceasefire in Gaza has enabled the United Nations (UN) humanitarians to reach more people with life-saving food, but greater access is needed to stem famine, a UN representative in Geneva said. Abeer Etefa, senior regional communications officer and spokesperson for the World Food Programme (WFP), said that since the ceasefire began on October 11, the agency has delivered over 6,700 metric tonnes of food, enough for nearly half a million people for two weeks, Xinhua news agency reported. "Daily deliveries continue and now average around 750 tonnes," she said, noting this remains well below WFP's target of 2,000 tonnes a day. "Unless all border crossing points are used, reaching this target is almost impossible." Currently, only the Kerem Shalom and Kissufim crossings in the south are open. Severe destruction continues to block access to northern Gaza, where famine was declared in August. "We need Erez, we need Zikkim, we need these border crossing points to open," Etefa stressed. Reaching northern Gaza with large-scale convoys is a priority. "We've cleared roads at scale into the north," she said, "but we need these crossings open to connect to Gaza City, where conditions are especially dire." WFP is restoring its food distribution network, aiming for 145 distribution points across the Strip, of which 26 have reopened. "People are showing up in large numbers, grateful for the efficiency and the dignified way they can collect their rations," Etefa said. The aid is especially crucial for "the most vulnerable," the women, female-headed households, and the elderly, she added. While many are hopeful, "there is cautious optimism" about how long current conditions will last. Many families save part of their rations because they are not confident the ceasefire will hold. "It is a fragile peace," she said. Food prices remain prohibitive, and supplies are still insufficient. "People can find food in the market, but it's out of reach because it's extremely expensive," Etefa warned. WFP is also helping the most food-insecure households through digital payments, enabling about 140,000 people to buy food locally, with plans to double that number soon. But Etefa stressed that humanitarian aid alone cannot solve the crisis, and commercial supplies must enter to complement relief efforts. Only a fully implemented and sustained ceasefire can allow WFP to operate at the scale needed, Etefa said. Source: IANS

Delhi chokes on post-Diwali smog, air quality dips to ‘very poor’ levels

New Delhi, Oct 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) Residents of the national capital woke up to a thick blanket of smog on Wednesday morning, as Delhi's air quality took a severe hit following Diwali celebrations. At 5:30 a.m., the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 345, falling in the 'very poor' category, as per data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Despite restrictions imposed by the Supreme Court on the use of firecrackers, several parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) witnessed widespread violations on Diwali night. On Tuesday, many monitoring stations recorded AQI levels breaching the 500-mark, a level categorised as ‘severe’. The 24-hour average AQI for Tuesday was 351, a sharp rise from 345 recorded on Monday. The pollution spike comes as no surprise, as Delhi has historically grappled with worsening air quality during the post-monsoon and winter months. Low wind speeds, combined with emissions from firecrackers and stubble burning in neighbouring states like Punjab and Haryana, contribute significantly to the toxic haze that envelops the city. Authorities are now considering emergency measures to combat the deteriorating air. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has indicated that Stage II of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) could be implemented. Under GRAP-II, stricter curbs will be introduced, including a ban on the use of diesel generators (except for essential services), tighter regulations on construction and demolition activities, and enhanced dust suppression efforts. Special task forces will also be deployed in pollution hotspots to manage vehicular emissions and traffic flow. Data from the CPCB over the past four years confirms that Diwali 2025 ranks among the most polluting in recent memory. The figures underscore a worrying pattern, a recurring plunge in breathable air quality directly linked to unchecked firecracker usage. Meanwhile on Tuesday, With particulate matter (PM) 2.5 concentrations averaging 488 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3) post Diwali, city doctors reported a rise in cases of respiratory issues, eye irritation, flu as well as joint pain among others. As the smog thickens, health experts have once again urged citizens, particularly children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, to limit outdoor exposure and wear protective masks when necessary. ‘There has to be something for pacers’, Gambhir shares his analysis of Delhi pitch

New Delhi, Oct 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) India head coach Gautam Gambhir has said that there could have been a better pitch on offer at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the venue for their seven-wicket win over the West Indies to complete a 2-0 series sweep. Gambhir also urged for pitches to be made which offer assistance to fast bowlers and carry through to the keeper, especially with India boasting a quality pace attack in Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, alongside Prasidh Krishna and Akash Deep being next in line. The current Indian team management signalled a shift toward more balanced surfaces, a move further prompted by last year’s 3-0 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand on rank turners. The revised strategy in terms of pitches paid immediate dividends in Ahmedabad, where India wrapped up the first Test inside three days with a win coming by an innings and 140 runs. But the game in New Delhi proved to be demanding. Despite being on course for a 2-0 series sweep, India’s bowlers were made to toil for nearly 200 overs without a break after enforcing the follow-on on a docile black soil pitch, exposing the physical toll such surfaces can have on the team. While, fast bowlers found some reverse swing and struck with the new ball, spinners had to rely on patience and variation to pick 13 wickets collectively. "I thought that we could have had a better wicket here. I think for me, yes we did get the result on day 5, but again, I think nicks need to carry. I think there has to be something for the fast bowlers as well. I know we keep talking about spinners playing an important role, but when you have got probably two quality fast bowlers in your ranks, you still want them to be in the game as well. "It is okay, there is not enough, but there has to be carry. So where we all saw, I thought the carry wasn't there, which was a bit alarming. I think going forward, we can get better wickets in Test Cricket because all of us have the responsibility of keeping Test cricket alive. I think the first and foremost thing to keep Test cricket alive is playing on good surfaces," said Gambhir in the post-match press conference. While India’s bowlers claimed all 40 West Indies wickets across two Tests, it also sets up the premise for how pitches in the upcoming home series against South Africa would be in the next month. With the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore having significant turn and variable bounce in the ongoing Pakistan-South Africa Test, India’s choice of surfaces could prove decisive against a strong Proteas’ batting line-up. Gambhir went on to praise West Indies’ fightback in the second Test, particularly their second-innings resistance, where John Campbell and Shai Hope made centuries, while Justin Greaves and Jayden Seales had a 79-run last wicket stand. “100 percent – I have always believed this, that world cricket needs West Indian cricket. That is something which is very important. It was very nice to see them fight. Obviously, they are an inexperienced team and there are a lot of changes that have happened there. But the way they fought in the second innings obviously will give them a lot of confidence," he said. Gambhir also defended the decision to play seam-bowling allrounder Nitish Reddy, despite limited bowling opportunities, stressing the importance of grooming a young player like him with rare skillsets in home conditions. “Look, for me, I think it is not important that how many overs he has bowled. It is important that he is gaining experience at home as well. Sometimes you learn a lot just by playing a game of cricket as well. It is a Test match, and we don't want to use a 23-year-old boy just on tough tours away from home - that is not going to be fair on him that we decide to play him only in overseas tour - be it Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, England. “I think when he has done well overseas, he deserves a go in home conditions as well. Wherever we can get the opportunity to put him in Indian conditions, we will continue to do that because it is important for us to groom someone like Nitish and also because you know that there are not many seam bowling all around. “We have spoken for decades and decades about seam bowling all around us. So, whenever we get that opportunity, we will keep grooming him. It depends on the captain, conditions as well and how many overs he bowls. But again, I think by seeing Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj bowling at home will be a great experience for him,” he elaborated. With no red-ball cricket scheduled for the next eight months before the away series in Sri Lanka, the upcoming Tests against South Africa, the current World Test Championship winners, will be a key benchmark for India’s Test side in transition mode. Gambhir acknowledged the need to give young players a longer rope when they come into the team set-up once the senior players have moved on. “First and foremost, you look at talent, work ethics, you look at the characters in their dressing room, especially in red ball cricket. You look at what they bring on the table. Apart from the amount of runs and wickets they do, I think how hungry they are, and if you got all those attributes, you will definitely have a successful Test career. More importantly, as a team, we will have a successful run as well. “So for me, I think giving them a longer run is very, very important because as we all know that international cricket is a very insecure environment because only 15 players can go on to represent the country and there are so many people waiting for their opportunity. “So make sure first you pick the right character and then if you see that, try and give them a longer run so that they themselves should be content and happy that they got a longer run rather than just chopping and changing as well. Sometimes it's difficult as a head coach and a team management where you will have to sometimes leave out players. “I don't like using this word, dropping players because you don't drop players, you only select players. More importantly, when you leave out a player, as a head coach, I should be emotional about it rather than just being very ruthless. I feel emotional when I leave out any of the guys not being part of the playing eleven or not being part of the squad. “So for me, I think that is something which is exceptionally important and these guys have done their bit, especially on an England tour, the kind of work ethic they had shown. For me, I think that was a huge takeaway, not only from my coaching point of view, but from this group's point of view as well,” he concluded. Source: IANS

India’s securitisation issuance hit record high of Rs 2.35 trillion in FY25: Report

Mumbai, Oct 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) India's total securitisation issuance reached a record high of Rs 2.35 trillion (approximately $27 billion) in fiscal 2025, with about 22 per cent allocated to residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS), a report has said. The bulk of the RMBS issuance has been through bilateral assignments, according to the data compiled by S&P Global Ratings. Pass-through certificate structures form a significantly smaller segment of the RMBS market compared to their share in India's overall securitisation market. "In our view, the first RMBS transaction announced by RMBS Development Co. Ltd. (RDCL) could improve investor confidence and pave the way for further issuance based on pass-through certificates (over bilateral assignments), in line with typical structures in global securitisation markets," the report said. It further emphasised that India could draw more domestic and offshore investors into its mortgage securitisation market as the country has emerged as one of the fastest-growing global economies. It has favourable demographics, rapid urbanisation, and strong policy support to meet its growing housing demand. "This has propelled housing market growth. New residential mortgage origination volumes rose about 40 per cent between fiscal years 2020 and 2025 (years ended March 31)," the report said. Concurrently, issuer interest in diversifying funding, developing offshore investor interest, and regulatory support for investments by foreign portfolio investors foster the increased use of securitisation to support financing. The listing of the transaction on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), along with the publicly available offering circular and investor reports, enhances market transparency. "We believe a transparent framework and standardisation of documents in line with global standards can support broadening the investor base with a good mix of domestic and offshore investors, and aid price discovery," the global rating agency said. At the same time, from our rating perspective, we believe some features would warrant a deeper assessment together with other transaction features. The report compared the setup of institutions similar to RDCL in other regions globally, as well as typical transaction features of mortgage-backed securities issued by them. "We also discuss our considerations for rating RMBS transactions in India," the report noted. Source: IANS

India to send sacred relics of Buddha’s disciples to Mongolia next year: PM Modi

New Delhi, Oct 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Highlighting that that the ties between India and Mongolia are not only diplomatic but the two nations also share a bond of warmth and spirituality, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that India will send the holy relics of Lord Buddha's two disciples to Mongolia next year. While addressing a joint press meet with Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa following their talks at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi, PM Modi said, "The relationship between India and Mongolia is not merely diplomatic — it is a bond of warmth and spirituality. The true depth and breadth of our relationship is reflected in our people-to-people ties. For centuries, both countries have been bound by the thread of Buddhism, which has led to us being called spiritual siblings. Today, to further strengthen this tradition and give new strength to our historical ties, we have taken several important decisions. "I am pleased to announce that next year, the holy relics of two great disciples of Lord Buddha – Sariputra and Maudgalyayana – will be sent from India to Mongolia. We will also send a Sanskrit teacher to Gandan Monastery to study the Buddhist texts there in depth and carry forward the ancient tradition of knowledge," he stated. PM Modi mentioned that the Nalanda University has played a vital role in the development of Buddhism in Mongolia and announced that the two nations have decided to link Nalanda and Gandan Monastery. He said that Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, before the meeting, planted a sapling as part of 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative. He said, "Our meeting today began with a tree plantation as part of Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam. The banyan tree sapling planted by President Khurelsukh in the name of his late mother will remain a symbol of our deep friendship and our shared commitment to the environment for generations to come." While extending a warm welcome to President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, PM Modi said, "I am delighted to welcome President Hurrelsukh and his delegation to India. The visit of the President of Mongolia to India after six years is a very special occasion and this visit is taking place when India and Mongolia are celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations and 10 years of Strategic Partnership. On this occasion, we have issued a joint postal stamp which symbolises our shared heritage." PM Modi announced that India will provide free e-visas to Mongolian citizens. He said, "We have decided to provide free e-visas to Mongolian citizens. India will also sponsor the annual visit of young cultural ambassadors from Mongolia to India." Recalling his 2015 visit to Mongolia, PM Modi said, "Ten years ago, during my visit to Mongolia, we elevated our partnership to a Strategic Partnership. Over the past decade, this partnership has gained new depth and breadth in every aspect. Our defence and security cooperation is also steadily strengthening." Source: IANS

Uncertain, yet hopeful: Afghan refugees in Delhi hail Kabul outreach with tears of joy

New Delhi, Oct 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) In the lanes and bylanes of New Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar, shops hug each other seemingly in endless clusters, selling wares from utensils to clothing to furnishing and whatnots. Ensconced between such outlets are the popular eateries, some of which proclaim their specialisation in Afghan cuisine. Since Monday, October 13, a meeting of some Afghan-origin representatives with visiting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, some members of the community reflected a mix of cautious hope, frustration, and anxiety about their future. “These were talks by big men in big rooms; it won’t bring us relief tomorrow (in the near future). We’re the nowhere people and need an identity; there’s no job for me, nor any school for my children,” sighed Khaleed, before pedaling away to melt in the crowd. “Yes, there are hardships as a refugee. But India has accepted us. I thank the government for granting us asylum and the people of this great country, who support us even when we can’t show any document, except a refugee card,” said Faisal Payenda, Chairman, Afghan Refugee Community in India. Payenda, who stays in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar, took shelter in India in 2015. He said he has heard about the Muttaqi meeting. According to him, there are an estimated 15,000 Afghan refugees in the capital at the moment. He remains optimistic, though cautious. Many community members reflected that sentiment. They feel the current diplomatic engagement underscores India’s historic ties with Afghanistan. They say that clearer lines of communication with Kabul might allow India to negotiate safeguards for Afghans who are already settled in India, or to channel humanitarian assistance more predictably. With a functional embassy, it will be easier for them to extend the duration of their passports, which will, in turn, facilitate visa processing. They also need clearance from the embassy and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to initiate bank operations. Ahmad Faisal, currently staying in a two-room accommodation in Bhogal, also said that he was aware of some Afghan representatives meeting Muttaqi. He too came to India in 2015, accompanied by his parents and six siblings. Beginning as a sundry salesman, he is now engaged with a fellow-Afghan, who has been in India for over three decades, in running one of Lajpat Nagar’s better-known restaurants serving Afghan food. “I know some representatives have met the visiting Foreign Minister. I heard about some talks of handing ownership of properties we’d left in a hurry. But how can I return now? I feel safer here,” said Faisal, sitting behind his tiny desk at the eatery. “Yes, without any identity we’re stateless today, but at least alive,” he argued. Though there was an influx of Afghan asylum seekers in India soon after the Taliban took control of Kabul in 2021, many have since migrated to other countries. Though the UNHCR and civil society actors are actively supporting them, there are constraints for the diaspora -- which is common for any refugee in any part of the world. Still, the community sheds a drop of tear of joy, in hope that the meetings will soon be followed by parallel, concrete commitments to protect and regularise their lot. Source: IANS

‘Facing threat, abuse for questioning RSS’: says K’taka Minister Priyank Kharge

Bengaluru, Oct 14 (SocialNews.XYZ) Karnataka Minister for RDPR, IT and BT, Priyank Kharge, stated on Tuesday that he and his family have been subjected to threats and abuse for the past two days for questioning the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and demanding a ban on its activities in public spaces. Taking to social media X, Minister Priyank, son of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, stated, "For the past two days, my phone hasn’t stopped ringing. Calls filled with threats, intimidation and the filthiest abuse directed at me and my family, simply because I dared to question and restrain RSS activities in government schools, colleges and public institutions." "But I’m neither shaken nor surprised. When the RSS didn’t spare Mahatma Gandhi or Babasaheb Ambedkar, why would they spare me?" he questioned. "If they think threats and personal jibes will silence me, they are mistaken. This has just begun," he challenged. Priyank further stated, "It is time to build a society founded on the principles of Buddha, Basavanna and Babasaheb, society rooted in equality, reason and compassion and purge this nation of the most dangerous viRuSS." Priyank Kharge had written a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding a ban on RSS activities in public spaces and in the premises of schools and college grounds, stirring a controversy. Countering this, the BJP released a photo showing Mallikarjun Kharge at an RSS meeting in Bengaluru and slammed him. Priyank Kharge, further defending his demand to ban the public activities of the RSS, said on Monday that his father had gone to an RSS event only to warn them against creating mischief. Also, responding to the incident of a suicide by a Kerala man allegedly because of years of sexual abuse at RSS camps, Priyank Kharge alleged that sexual harassment is happening within the RSS in the state as well. Kharge stated, "If one sees the victim Kerala man's post on Instagram, one can clearly state that he had undergone sexual harassment at the RSS events. It's not only in Kerala, it is happening in our state as well (Karnataka)." "One Hanume Gowda has written a book in this regard on how in the RSS sexual harassment is given. I have been telling that the RSS is the most secretive organization in the whole world. Why this secrecy and who are they?" Minister Priyank Kharge questioned. Source: IANS
