Two senior Maoist cadres with collective bounties worth Rs 1.5 crores, surrender

Malkangiri: Two hardcore Maoists have surrendered. The two senior Maoist cadres, who had a collective bounties of worth Rs. 1.5 crore surrendered with Telangana Police in Odisha’s Malkangiri border on Wednesday. The two surrendered hard-core Maoists have been identified as organization’s Central Committee member Puluri Prasad Rao alias Chandranna and State Committee member B. Prakash alias Parvata. The two senior Maoist cadres had a collective bounty of Rs 1.5 crore in their names. They were most wanted in 4 states. Central Committee member Puluri Prasad Rao was in Telangana and was involved in the Maoist organization for 45 years. Prasad was a CC member for 17 years. The surrender of these two leaders has shaken the organization. Police expect many more Maoists to join the mainstream in the coming days. Jeypore: A staffer of Jeypore treasury in Koraput district of Odisha on Saturday nabbed by Odisha Vigilance while taking bribe of Rs 47 thousand for facilitating release of pension of widow of a deceased Government employee. The accused has been identified as Harischandra Mohapatra, peon at the Special Treasury, Jeypore. As per reports, today on 25.10.2025, a short while ago, Harischandra Mohapatra, Peon, O/O Special Treasury, Jeypore, Dist-Koraput has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance while demanding and taking bribe of Rs.47,000 as 2nd and final instalment of overall demand of bribe Rs. 87,000 from widow (Complainant) of a deceased Govt employee for facilitating release of arrear pension amounting to Rs.3,48,000/- in her favour. Accused Peon, Mohapatra had demanded Rs.87,000/- i.e. 25% of the amount credited as bribe and received Rs.40,000/- as first instalment a few days back. He was still putting pressure on the complainant to pay her the rest amount of bribe Rs.47,000 , and threatened her to not to release pension from September, 2025, unless he was paid the above bribe amount, prompted complainant to approach Vigilance authorities narrating her harassment. Following this, a team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed Mohapatra, Peon, today while taking bribe Rs. 47,000 from the complainant. The entire tainted bribe money of Rs.47,000/- has been recovered from the possession of Mohapatra and seized. Following trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Mohapatra from DA angle. In this connection, Koraput Vigilance PS Case No.32 dtd.24.10.2025 u/s.7 P.C (Amendment) Act,2018 has been registered. Investigation is in progress against accused Mohapatra, Peon. Bhubaneswar: Odisha Cabinet on Saturday approved five important proposals. Chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, five proposals from four departments were approved in this 29th cabinet meeting. The Cabinet has approved a total outlay of 1952.56 crore for the operation of 20O midi electric buses over the next 10 years. Under Package VIII, 10O buses have been allotted for Keonjhar (25), Baripada (25), and Berhampur (50). Similarly, under Package IX, another 1O0 buses will be deployed in Angul (25), Jharsuguda (25) and Sambalpur (5O). The State Cabinet today has approved a new scheme “Aahaar’, with an outlay of Rs. 512 crores for five financial years from 2025-26 to 2029-30 to meet the rising demand of beneficiaries and ensure uninterrupted service of providing subsidised meals @ Rs. 5. The cabinet has approved the Small Livestock Development Sub-scheme under the Wildlife Resources Development Scheme. The expenditure of this scheme is estimated at Rs 294.36 crore for the next 4 years. 23,735 farmers will benefit from this scheme. Cyclone ‘Montha’ to make landfall in Andhra Pradesh, check details

Bhubaneswar: Cyclone ‘Montha’ is expected to make landfall in Andhra Pradesh, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall. The system has formed a low-pressure area today and is forecasted to intensify into a deep depression and cyclonic storm by the morning of October 27. As the cyclone moves northwestwards towards the Andhra Pradesh coast, it is predicted to strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm by October 28. The storm is expected to make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, with Kakinada likely to be in the direct path during the evening or night of October 28. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of wind speeds reaching 90-100 kmph, with gusts up to 110 kmph at the time of landfall. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea starting tomorrow, and a warning has been issued for all ports in Odisha as a precautionary measure.
