World Tennis League set for India debut this December

BENGALURU: The World Tennis League is set to land in India next month, bringing a turbocharged mix of global stars and homegrown talent to Bengaluru. After three seasons in the UAE, the event, licensed and managed by Iconik Sports and Events, will run from 17 to 20 December at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium, the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association’s flagship venue. The line-up features a heavyweight roster including Daniil Medvedev, Nick Kyrgios, Elena Rybakina, Paula Badosa, Rohan Bopanna, Gael Monfils, Arthur Fils, Sumit Nagal, Magda Linette and Marta Kostyuk. With tennis gaining traction across India, the league has also added domestic standouts Yuki Bhambri, Ankita Raina, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, Maaya Revathi, Dhakshineswar Suresh and Shivika Burman. World number five Rybakina said she was excited about her first appearance in India and eager to experience the WTL format. Co-founder of the league and 12-time Grand Slam champion Mahesh Bhupathi said India’s deep-rooted bond with tennis made this debut momentous and that the format would spotlight the fast, dynamic and engaging side of the sport. Iconik Sports and Events managing director Krishnan Kannan said hosting WTL strengthens India’s sporting ecosystem by showcasing its capability to stage world-class tournaments while giving Indian players a stage alongside global names. The Bengaluru edition is poised to become a landmark fixture in India’s sporting calendar, blending competition, star power and entertainment. With the world watching, WTL looks set to fire up a fresh wave of tennis fever and serve India’s ambitions deep into the global sporting court.
