Atletico Madrid issue Arsenal complaint to UEFA ahead of Champions League clash

Atletico Madrid have lodged an official complaint to UEFA ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash against Arsenal, after being left without hot water at the Emirates Stadium following their training session today. Marca reports that the LaLiga side trained in London on a rainy day, but they were unable to shower before leaving the stadium. Diego Simeone’s men had reported the issue to Arsenal’s staff shortly after Atletico arrived around 5:30pm, but it was not resolved before the end of training. The Spanish side were shocked that a modern stadium such as the Emirates could experience such a basic facilities issue, especially during a major UEFA competition. Players and staff had to return to their hotel to shower and prepare for the match. Atletico have since filed a formal protest to UEFA, calling the situation unacceptable for a stadium of Arsenal’s stature.

EPL: You have to prove it – Arteta refuses to accept Arsenal are title favourites

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has refused the tag of title favourites for this team. The Gunners are now three points clear at the top of the Premier League table. This follows their 1-0 victory at Fulham and Liverpool's 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United. Since their loss at Anfield in August, Arsenal have gone unbeaten in five successive league games and eight across all competitions. This has just led to Arteta's men being increasingly considered the new favourites to win the title this season. But speaking to reporters ahead of their Champions League fixture against Atletico Madrid, Arteta told reporters: "The only thing I embrace is when I see the team, the energy, the temperature, the commitment and quality that they can deliver. "That gives me the conviction that we can go all the way. "But that's just a feeling, then the next day you have to prove it and you can't be busy thinking about those topics. There obviously is a lot of narrative after . "Every game in this league is must-win. We are very appreciative of that, so we don't get carried away with anything."

2026 WCQ: Super Eagles’ playoff hopes diminish after Cameroon’s draw with Angola

The Super Eagles’ slim hopes of at least making it to the 2026 World Cup play-offs took a blow on Monday following Cameroon’s 0-0 draw with Angola. The Indomitable Lions failed to secure maximum points despite playing at home. This means Marc Brys’ men are tied on 15 points with Burkina Faso and Niger in the race to finish as one of the top four ranked runners-up across the nine groups. The result has opened the door for DR Congo, Uganda, or even Nigeria to leapfrog them in the rankings. However, Cameroon will be relying on their healthy +12 goal difference to edge out the other contenders. As for Nigeria, they currently sit third in Group C with 14 points and a goal difference of +3 ahead of their final qualifying clash at home against Benin. Gabon and Burkina Faso are both almost certain to claim the first two play-off spots.

The result ensured that the Blue Sharks finished top of their group ahead of heavyweights Cameroon. Dailon Livramento opened the scoring for the hosts in Praia, before Willy Semedo volleyed in a second. Veteran defender Stopira added the third in stoppage time.
