Jennifer Lopez Hugs Mom Guadalupe Rodríguez at “Kiss of the Spider Woman” Premiere in New York City

Jennifer Lopez had a very special supporter by her side at the premiere of her newest film. The actress, dancer and singer shared a sweet moment with her mom Guadalupe Rodríguez as Kiss of the Spider Woman debuted in New York City on Monday, Oct. 6. While Rodríguez didn't walk the red carpet alongside her daughter at The Shed venue, Lopez, 56, was snapped giving her mom a hug behind the scenes. It was a total family affair for Lopez, who was also joined by her 17-year-old twins, Max and Emme, for photos on the red carpet. Not only has Rodríguez, 79, given her daughter moral support — she also prepared the Selena star for a career in show business, from an early age. "My mom was also the mom who got me into musicals and introduced me to all kinds of music. I am an entertainer because of my mom," Lopez said in a February 2022 Rolling Stone cover story, adding that she is "able to survive the things I've survived in this business because my mom was tough." "I don't think she could realize what she was preparing me for, but she did," Lopez added. Back in December 2024, Lopez dedicated a sweet birthday tribute to her mom on Instagram, sharing a carousel of photos including a close-up selfie, a candid shot of Rodríguez in hair rollers and a throwback photo of the mother-daughter duo all dressed up. "Happy birthday mommy!! I love you so very much!! Thank you for being there for me always …🤍🤍 #TheLupinator," Lopez wrote in the caption of Rodríguez, who shares the star with David Lopez. (The pair split in 1999 after 33 years of marriage.) Written and directed by Bill Condon, Kiss of the Spider Woman is an adaptation of the 1993 Broadway musical by John Kander, Fred Ebb and Terrence McNally, which in turn was based on the 1976 novel by Manuel Puig. The story was previously adapted for a 1985 film starring William Hurt, Raul Julia and Sônia Braga, while the new movie stars Lopez, Tonatiuh and Diego Luna. Lopez is part of an extensive executive-producing team that also includes ex Ben Affleck and Matt Damon under their Artists Equity banner. During Monday's premiere, Lopez and Affleck, 53, turned heads as they posed together on the red carpet. Ahead of the screening, Lopez introduced the film and thanked her ex-husband, saying, “Thank you so much, thank you everybody for being here tonight. Thank you, Ben, this movie wouldn’t have been made without Ben and without Artists Equity.” Executive producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas stressed to PEOPLE at the premiere that Lopez is playing "three roles" in Kiss of the Spider Woman: "Ingrid Luna, the actress; Aurora, the role the actress plays; and Spider Woman." According to Goldsmith-Thomas, Lopez "went to a speech teacher to learn that mid-Atlantic" accent for her character, as filmmaker Condon, 69, " wanted to do this very much in the style of the movies of the '50s," including filming everything "in one shot." "That meant that all of those dance numbers she did — from top to bottom, there was no cutting, there was no coverage," she adds of Lopez. "It was extraordinary, and when [Bill] pitched her his vision, it was honestly exactly what you ended up seeing. He was that sure of what he was doing." Kiss of the Spider Woman is in theaters Friday, Oct. 10.
