Texans LB Azeez Al-Shaair could be suspended for his latest cheap shot

The penalty was costly for Houston, as the Seahawks went on to score a touchdown on the drive and take an early 14-0 lead. It will likely be costly for Al-Shaair as well. While the late hit was not overly egregious, Al-Shaair has a long history of being fined and suspended for cheap shots. He was fined $17,389 for roughing the passer in Houston’s Week 4 game against the Tennessee Titans. Al-Shaair was fined $20,555 for an illegal hit with the crown of his helmet during the Texans’ first-round playoff win over the Los Angeles Chargers last season. The illegal hit in the playoffs came less than two weeks after Al-Shaair was suspended three games for a hit on Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence. He had served two separate four-game suspensions prior to that for dirty plays and helmet-to-helmet hits. In total, Al-Shaair has been flagged for illegal hits more than a dozen times. He has been fined on numerous occasions. The 28-year-old will almost certainly be fined for his late hit on Darnold, and a suspension is not out of the question.

Brian Callahan has been fired by the Titans

Callahan becomes the first head coach to lose his job in 2025, which is hardly a surprise. Though he is in only his second season with the Titans, the team is 1-5 and coming off a 20-10 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6. Callahan finishes with a record of 4-19 in one-plus season in Tennessee. The former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator went 3-14 in his first season, which led to the Titans landing the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft. They used that selection on quarterback Cam Ward. Ward has been slow to develop under Callahan, which likely factored into the Titans’ decision. The former Miami star has a passer rating of 67.3 through his first six career starts with 3 touchdown passes and 4 interceptions. Callahan threw Ward under the bus following Sunday’s loss, so the coach may have known he was about to lose his job. The Titans are preparing to host the New England Patriots and their former head coach, Mike Vrabel, in Week 7. Callahan was hired by Tennessee after Vrabel was fired, and many questioned whether that was the right decision.
