Carol Vorderman urged to 'reduce stress levels' amid secret chronic condition

Carol Vorderman, 64, is a self-confessed "gym bunny" with a dedication for keeping fit and healthy, but a debilitating health condition stopped her in her tracks, she has revealed in a candid interview. When sitting on the This Morning sofa on Wednesday, the Pride of Britain presenter told Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley that she has been battling with chronic rheumatoid arthritis behind the scenes. "I developed chronic rheumatoid arthritis almost overnight… I couldn't move my hand without crying in pain. The pain lasted for months while doctors worked to find the right medication," she said. As well recounting her agonising experience, Carol used the opportunity to commend the NHS for their support. She even gave a shout out to her local hospital in Bristol, the Bristol Royal Infirmary. "The team at Bristol Royal Infirmary have been absolutely magnificent. I'm now on the right treatment… and finally off the steroids," she added. NHS GP, Dr Raj Arora, who has also previously appeared on This Morning, for health advice, has spoken to HELLO! Online about the condition and she urges Carol to manage her stress levels, among other things, in order to keep symptoms at bay. "Stress management is a key aspect, as stress can trigger flare-ups. Activities like yoga, meditation, and relaxation exercises can help reduce stress levels," she says. As well as the low-impact exercises, "physiotherapy can also help to maintain mobility" as it "improves joint function and reduces stiffness". "Dietary changes can also be beneficial," explains Dr Raj. "Some people are advised to follow an anti-inflammatory diet to help reduce inflammation throughout the body. This usually includes foods high in antioxidants and Omega-3 fatty acids, along with plenty of vegetables to support overall joint health." What are the signs to look out for with chronic rheumatoid arthritis? We asked Dr Raj to outline the symptoms to watch out for that could indicate arthritis. "Typically, you will see joint pain and swelling. This pain and swelling are persistent and usually symmetrical, meaning both sides of the body are affected," she advises. "Stiffness is another common symptom, often occurring in the morning or after periods of inactivity, when you haven’t been moving much, you’ll find you feel stiffer." Dr Raj continues: "Fatigue is also a frequent symptom alongside the joint issues. You might notice nodules on the joints or lumps under the skin near them, which can be quite distinct, especially in the smaller joints such as those in the hands and legs. Finally, a decreased range of motion is common due to both stiffness and pain, making it difficult to move the joints properly." Carol Vorderman's health focus In 2001, Carol released a landmark book, Detox for Life, which revealed her love of a detox diet, a kind of diet that cuts foods with additives. Previously speaking to the Daily Mail, Carol stressed her love for clean eating: "I actually like eating whole plates of vegetables so sometimes that’s what I’ll eat."

Prince William and Princess Kate's home hit with 'severe' warning

The Prince and Princess of Wales are bringing up their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis in the most idyllic surroundings in the Great Windsor Estate. They currently live at Adelaide Cottage and are set for a big move to Forest Lodge very soon, but amid this upheaval they have got something else to contend with – and that's the British weather! The Great Windsor Park website issued a statement on Thursday, due to the extreme weather expected in the area. Parts of the park were forced to close due to the winds and rain, and this is where both their new, and existing, royal homes are located. The notice read: "Severe weather closures. With a yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office, and following our severe weather plan, we have taken the decision to close a number of areas of Windsor Great Park and its facilities on Thursday 23 October 2025. For a full list of closures see our visitor updates." However, the Met Office has reassured members of the public that the weather front is changing. "Storm Benjamin, a deep area of low pressure named by Meteo France, is now tracking away from the UK and its impacts are gradually diminishing," they said. Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Chris Bulmer said: "As Storm Benjamin clears the UK and heads towards Denmark late tomorrow cold Arctic air will sweep across the country, bringing a noticeably chilly weekend as temperatures fall below average." Earlier this month, the royals, along with the rest of the country, had Storm Amy to contend with. King Charles' Balmoral home had to close due to the adverse weather. Thousands of people were left without power amid the storm and one man lost his life due to a falling tree in Yorkshire. During my time as Homes Editor for HELLO! Online, I've seen many occasions where royal homes have been forced to close due to unforeseen circumstances such as storms. The teams at the royal properties take health and safety very seriously and are willing to close facilities to make sure everyone stays out of harm's way. Why are Prince William and Princess Kate moving? The royals have not explicitly said why they are relocating, but Danielle Stacey, HELLO!'s Online Royal Correspondent, gives us an expert insight into the move. "Upsizing to Forest Lodge allows the family more space and has already been viewed as their 'forever home,' rather than having the children growing up within the walls of a palace." It is also believed that the family will remain here for the long term, even when William takes the rein one day, he prefers to live here instead of move into Buckingham Palace. Forest Lodge seems like the perfect "forever home". Prince William and Princess Kate's renovations Forest Lodge previously underwent a £1.5 million restoration to conserve its period features and now it has been overhauled once again ahead of William and Kate moving in. It is believed they will foot the bill themselves, instead of using taxpayers' money. Infamously, Prince Harry and Meghan's UK home, Frogmore Cottage had a whole renovation in 2019, costing the Sovereign Grant a reported £2.4 million, but after stepping down from royal duties, the couple then repaid the money in full.

Fresh photos of Prince Andrew's 'crumbling' home revealed as he stands firm on lease

Prince Andrew, 65, has been stripped of his royal titles, but he remains living at his royal residence, Royal Lodge, rent free. The former Duke of York has been embroiled in the Jeffrey Epstein controversy for years now, and with newly released emails putting him in further hot water, there are growing calls from members of the public for him to leave his Windsor home. He has resided there since 2004, and his lease is valid until 2078. While King Charles' brother has paid millions in repair costs since moving in, parts of the building are crumbling as fresh photos have revealed. Pictures taken of the exterior of Royal Lodge show areas of disrepair, with crumbling paintwork and cracks evidently visible. While these images only show a number of issues, this is likely to form part of a bigger problem, with the property requiring further attention. Property expert, Terry Fisher of We Buy Any Home, explained to HELLO! that the lodge is in need of urgent restoration, and these works would cost upwards of £250,000. "Royal Lodge appears to be showing visible signs of ageing, including peeling paint, mould on exterior bricks, and likely underlying damp or poor insulation. These issues point to postponed maintenance that could lead to more serious structural damage if not addressed soon," he said. So far, Andrew has found the money to pay for the upkeep, but perhaps staying there is no longer financially viable. Why doesn't King Charles remove Prince Andrew from Royal Lodge? While the King cut off his brother financially last year, he isn't able to remove him from the property legally, because there is a lease in place. This type of agreement with The Crown Estate is fairly commonplace, and in my career of writing about royal homes, I've come across multiple royals who have leased residences from the monarch. A copy of the leasehold agreement for Royal Lodge, which was obtained by The Times, revealed that while Andrew paid £1 million for the lease plus at least £7.5 million for refurbishments (which were completed in 2005), he has paid only "one peppercorn (if demanded)" in rent per year, since 2003. Peppercorn rent is a legal term describing the symbolic payment of rent by Prince Andrew to the Crown Estate. In a special episode of A Right Royal Podcast, Andrew Lownie author of bestselling book The Rise and Fall of the House of York, predicted that Andrew could leave "voluntarily." "He has this ironclad lease as long as he maintains the terms of that lease," he says, before adding: "The only way I think he can go is to voluntarily go. The optics look terrible for a non-working royal in a 30-room mansion. And he, of course, is an honourable man and he always puts the country and the monarchy first, so I hope he will do the right thing." "Only pressure that could be put on him is how his daughters are treated and maybe if the screws are put on to them, in terms of their future, he might do that."
