Trumps ballroom project is the first major renovation project in decades. Under this initiative Trump will demolish the East Wing of the White House and convert it into a grand ballroom that can accommodate 1000 people. Need for a grand ballroom The East Wing of the White House houses the office of the First Lady the wife of the US President and her staff. The East Wing was built in 1902 and has been modified periodically. However Trump has now bulldozed it and wants to transform it into a magnificent ballroom. Trump says the White House has always needed a grand ballroom to accommodate state visits by foreign heads of state. He says government events present challenges with large gatherings and a new ballroom is the solution. Who is funding the grand ballroom? In addition to major companies like Apple and Meta the ballroom is being funded by Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss co-founders of cryptocurrency exchange Gemini Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and his family and the Adelson family. Trump awarded Republican donor Miriam Adelson the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2018.
