Victorian teenage criminals reportedly sent on Gold Coast holidays as part of their rehabilitation

Violent teenage criminals from Victoria are reportedly being sent on lavish Gold Coast holidays as part of their rehabilitation, it has been revealed. At least two teenagers responsible for some of the state’s most violent crimes, including home invasions and carjackings, have been allowed to fly interstate to Queensland for holidays, ABC Radio Melbourne reported on Monday. The teenagers, who were sentenced to community corrections orders for their crimes, had their conditions altered to allow them to travel legally interstate. The Victorian state government was quick to distance itself from the initiative, confirming the holidays had occurred but saying it was not their idea, nor did the government fund the trips. The funding was reportedly approved by the NDIS through the federal government and was organised by a program through the teenagers’ social workers. It’s unclear how many teenagers have been allowed to fly interstate, reportedly at taxpayer expense, as part of these rehabilitation efforts. 7NEWS.com.au has contacted the state government and the NDIS for comment.
