Sharks beat Avalanche in OT, lose defenseman to injury

SAN JOSE – Philipp Kurashev scored at the 1:48 mark of overtime to lift the San Jose Sharks to a 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday at SAP Center. Kurashev took pass from Alexander Wennberg, went in and beat Avalanche goalie Mackenzie Blackwood with a shot to the glove side as the Sharks improved to 4-2-0 their last six games after a 0-4-2 start. They now play the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday in the second of back-to-back games on home ice. Goalie Yaroslav Askarov had a bounce-back game against the Avalanche with 36 saves, after he allowed four goals on 14 shots in a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday. After Avalanche forward Martin Necas scored 30 seconds into the game, Askarov finished the first period with 14 saves and had 28 saves after 40 minutes. The Sharks took a 2-1 lead on Kursahev’s goal 4:07 into the second period, as he took a pass from Ty Delladrea and beat goalie Mackenzie Blackwood for his fourth goal of the season. The Avalanche got that goal back just over five minutes later in somewhat disputed fashion. Nathan MacKinnon got behind the Sharks’ defense and was in alone on Askarov. He went forehand to backhand to try and beat Askarov right before Sharks winger Jeff Skinner lost an edge and crashed into the net. MacKinnon put the puck across the goal line after the net had been knocked off. The play was reviewed by the NHL, which, in confirming a goal, cited Rule 63.7, which says in part that “the attacking player must have an imminent scoring opportunity prior to the goal post being displaced, and it must be determined that the puck would have entered the net between the normal position of the goal posts.” Macklin Celebrini extended his career-best point streak to seven games with a goal at the 18:21 mark of the first period that tied the game 1-1. Shakir Mukhamadullin sent a pass up through the neutral zone up to Tyler Toffoli, who quickly sent a centering pass to a trailing Celebrini. Instead of dusting it off, Celebrini fired it right away, beating Blackwood, an ex-Shark, high to the blocker side. Celebrini had two shot attempts in the first period, including one dazzling play in the Colorado end in which he did a complete spin before putting a shot on net. Timothy Liljegren was injured midway through the first period, as a deflected puck into the Sharks’ bench caught the defenseman in the face. Liljegren, who was in obvious distress, was immediately treated by the Sharks’ training staff and helped to the team’s dressing room. The Sharks announced before the start of the second period that Liljegren, who had emerged as a top-pair defenseman averaging 22:50 in ice time per game, would not return. Saturday’s game featured some of the NHL’s most dynamic offensive players, with MacKinnon, Martin Necas, and defenseman Cale Makar from Colorado entered Saturday as the NHL’s second-highest scoring team at 3.75 goals per game, and was coming off an impressive 4-2 road win over the Vegas Golden Knights.

NFL Announces Stiff Penalties for Vikings' Dallas Turner, Blake Cashman

The NFL Office of Gameday Accountability will collect two significant fines from Minnesota Vikings defenders for their on-field actions during the team’s defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers on “Thursday Night Football.” During the first quarter, edge-rusher Dallas Turner “launched” while making a stop. The league penalized him for unnecessary roughness and fined Turner $19,907 for the offense. In the following period, linebacker Blake Cashman used his helmet illegally as part of a play. NFL officials hit him with an unnecessary roughness penalty totaling $23,186. It was Cashman’s second game back since he suffered a hamstring strain during the season-opener against the Chicago Bears. Neither Cashman nor Turner faces a suspension. Read More: Vikings QB JJ McCarthy Receives Dire Warning Before Lions Return Edge-rusher Dallas Turner #15 of the Minnesota Vikings. (Photo by David Berding/Getty Images) Minnesota next takes the field on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy will be back in the starting lineup after Carson Wentz underwent surgery to repair an injury to his non-throwing shoulder. McCarthy played just two games to begin the season before he sustained a high-ankle sprain, which knocked him out for the next six weeks (five games). As a still highly inexperienced quarterback at the NFL level, the timing of the 22-year-old QB’s return is not ideal for the Vikings (3-4). “The Vikings, to this point in the season, had the easiest schedule in the NFL. The Vikings going forward have the hardest schedule in the NFL,” said Danny Heifetz of The Ringer on the October 22 edition of The Bill Simmons Podcast. “So McCarthy comes back, he’s gonna get rocked. He’s clearly not ready for the NFL, and the Vikings are a win-now team.” Minnesota plays Detroit twice, the Green Bay Packers twice, the Chicago Bears once and the Seattle Seahawks once over the final 10 games of the campaign. Preliminary Charges Handed Down to More Suspects in Louvre Heist

Preliminary Charges Handed Down to More Suspects in Louvre Heist

Two more suspects have been hit with preliminary charges for their alleged involvement in the October Louvre heist, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said in a Saturday press release. Why It Matters Around 9:30 a.m., on October 19, a group of intruders took less than eight minutes to make off with eight pieces of the French crown jewels, valued at roughly $102 million. They went through a window, sliced through display cases with power tools, took the jewels and sped away on scooters along the Seine River. Police have been working to track down suspects in connection with the heist. In total, the police have arrested seven people related to the event, three of who have been released without charges. Saturday’s charges bring the total charged in the robbery to four. The heist has highlighted security concerns surrounding museums and locations that host high-value items around the world, especially as the Louvre is the world’s largest museum, and one of the most visited. What To Know The suspects were arrested on Wednesday, a week-and-a-half after the heist. Beccuau said in the press release that they were brought before judges on Saturday. Following their separate court appearances, a 37-year-old man was charged with theft by an organized gang and criminal conspiracy and was known to authorities due to previous thefts. The other suspect, a 38-year-old woman was charged with complicity in organized theft and criminal conspiracy. AFP reported she had children and was in tears in court. The statement also noted that the other three people who were arrested on Wednesday have been released. The two suspects arrested on Wednesday, whose names were not disclosed, remain in pre-trial detention. Both of them have denied any involvement in the Louvre robbery. Authorities previously said one of the earlier charged suspects was a 34-year-old Algerian national living in France since 2010. He was stopped by police while trying to board a flight to Algeria. The second suspect, a 39-year-old man also from Aubervilliers, was already known to police for thefts. Beccuau said earlier this week that both men who were first arrested have been charged with theft and criminal conspiracy after “partially admitting to the charges.” Surveillance footage shows at least four people were involved. Investigators believe the group arrived in a truck equipped with a freight lift, which two men used to reach the museum’s window before fleeing on scooters to eastern Paris where other vehicles were waiting. None of the stolen jewelry, or individual parts of it, have been located. Soldiers patrol in the courtyard of the Louvre museum on October 30 in Paris. (AP Photo/Emma Da Silva) What People Are Saying Adrien Sorrentino, a lawyer for the woman suspect in custody, said per The Guardian: “This is a spectacular heist, and the decision that has just been made is a spectacular one: a young woman has just been placed in detention despite being presumed innocent.” French President Emmanuel Macron wrote in a post to X: “The theft committed at the Louvre is an attack on a heritage that we cherish because it is our History. We will recover the works, and the perpetrators will be brought to justice. Everything is being done, everywhere, to achieve this, under the leadership of the Paris prosecutor’s office. The Louvre New Renaissance project, which we launched in January, provides for strengthened security. It will be the guarantor of the preservation and protection of what constitutes our memory and our culture.” French Senator Laurent Lafon, head of the Culture Committee at the Senate, said earlier this week after a Louvre visit: “We all noticed that the security equipment is not suitable for a 21st-century museum such as the Louvre. It is our flagship, it must be exemplary, and today we cannot describe the security conditions at the Louvre as exemplary.” What Happens Next? The investigation and proceedings remain ongoing, as does the search for the missing jewelry.

Massive WWE Saturday Night's Main Event Spoiler Revealed

Just before the live airing of “WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event” begins, an intriguing spoiler has been reported. Fightful has revealed the unannounced match order for the big show in Salt Lake City. The report notes that headlining the show will be the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between CM Punk and Jey Uso. The Undisputed WWE Championship clash between titleholder Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre is planned for the “Saturday Night’s Main Event” opener. It was noted that the reported match order is subject to change. The WWE Women’s Championship match between champion Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill is set to take place right after Rhodes vs. McIntyre. The triple threat WWE Intercontinental Championship showdown featuring Dominik Mysterio, Penta, and Rusev will follow that match right before the aforementioned headliner. EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY – AUGUST 02: CM Punk reacts during his match against Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship of the WWE 2025 SummerSlam at MetLife Stadium on August 02, 2025 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images) More News: WWE Raw Star Seth Rollins Provides Huge Injury Update Feuds Leading up to WWE SNME Rhodes has placed blame on McIntyre for Jacob Fatu’s injury. “The American Nightmare” was disqualified during his professional wrestling title match against McIntyre to close out the Oct. 17 episode of “Friday Night SmackDown.” McIntyre was able to add a stipulation for his title rematch with Rhodes at “Saturday Night’s Main Event.” If Rhodes is disqualified or counted out, he will lose the Undisputed WWE Championship. WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton thought she could trust Jade Cargill after “The Storm” saved her from an attack at the hands of Giulia and Kiana James. Cargill ended up turning heel by ambushing Stratton during the Oct. 24 episode of “WWE SmackDown,” injuring her knee in the process. Punk earned his shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship when he defeated Uso and LA Knight in a triple threat match. Once Seth Rollins was forced to relinquish the gold due to an injury, Uso won a battle royal to secure a vacant title match with Punk. Mysterio has been able to avoid losing his title to Rusev and Penta through nefarious means on separate occasions. After El Grande Americano’s group attacked Penta and Rusev in a No. 1 contender match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, “Monday Night Raw” general manager Adam Pearce booked the triple threat title match. Did Arizona High School Teachers Mock Charlie Kirk's Death? Halloween Shirts Spark Fury

A group of teachers at an Arizona high school has sparked outrage after wearing Halloween T-shirts covered in fake blood and bearing the slogan "Problem Solved". The shirts were worn by several maths teachers at Cienega High School in Vail, near Tucson, and featured red stains resembling blood down the left side. Photos of the group posing together in the outfits circulated on social media, drawing criticism from parents and residents who described the costumes as "distasteful" and politically charged. Some parents alleged the shirts referenced the September 10 killing of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, who was shot in the left side of his neck in Utah. Vail School District Superintendent John Carruth rejected claims that the costumes were related to Kirk’s death, saying the shirts had been used previously as part of a maths-themed Halloween outfit. "These shirts were worn both this and last year as part of math-themed Halloween costumes and were not intended as a reference to any person, event, or political issue," Carruth said. "Any reference that these shirts were related to something other than that are simply false and untrue." Also Read: Did Charlie Kirk Predict His Own Death? Candace Owens Reveals Chilling Texts He added that the shirts, which can be purchased online, were meant as a light-hearted nod to solving mathematical problems. While some commenters on social media defended the teachers, others criticised them for poor judgment. "As a teacher myself, I was absolutely appalled by that photo," one poster wrote. "Irrespective of your political views and convictions, you must remain professional and impartial. In my classes, I never allow myself even a single political comment." Another user wrote: "There’s a difference between being clever and being crude, and this missed the mark entirely. The timing, the imagery, the slogan — none of it adds up." Andrew Kolvert, a spokesperson for Turning Point USA, also questioned the district’s explanation, saying the imagery "missed the mark entirely". Carruth apologised for the distress caused, but said that personal attacks and threats directed at the teachers had become a concern. "Personal attacks or threats against staff are unacceptable and do not reflect the values of our community," he said, urging residents to stop targeting the educators online. It appears that Carruth’s statement has since been removed from the school district’s Facebook page. Harvard Medical School Explosion: First Photos Of Possible Suspects Released By Police

Authorities have released surveillance images of two masked individuals wanted for questioning following an intentional explosion that rocked a Harvard Medical School research building early Saturday morning, prompting a sweeping federal investigation across Boston’s Longwood Medical Campus. According to Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) officials, the blast occurred at approximately 2:48 a.m. inside the Goldenson Building, which houses the school’s molecular biology and genetics laboratories. While the explosion caused structural damage, no injuries were reported. HUPD spokesperson Steven G. Catalano confirmed that an officer on patrol witnessed two people fleeing the scene moments before the blast. “The Boston Fire Department Arson Unit has determined the explosion to be intentional,” Catalano said. “We are working closely with local, state, and federal authorities to identify the individuals involved.” Surveillance Photos Released of Hooded Suspects By late afternoon, police released two still images captured from security cameras showing two masked men dressed in dark hooded sweatshirts and ski masks walking through a hallway near the site of the explosion. Both are now considered persons of interest in what investigators are referring to as the “Harvard Bombing – CAS Incident”, short for Chemical and Academic Sciences. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Harvard Detective Bureau at 617-495-1796. The Boston Police Department (BPD) and FBI Boston Field Office are jointly investigating the incident, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). BPD confirmed the building was swept for additional explosive devices, none of which were found. Federal Agents Examine Chemical Residue FBI spokesperson Kristen M. Setera described the inquiry as a “complex, coordinated investigation.” Forensic teams are analysing residue samples to determine the device’s chemical composition. “At this stage, we can confirm the incident was deliberate,” Setera said. “Our teams are working with campus security to establish a timeline and identify the suspects seen fleeing the scene.” No organisation has claimed responsibility. Investigators are reportedly considering motives ranging from academic sabotage to politically motivated vandalism. Boston Fire officials called the incident “contained but concerning,” noting that the device appeared to be locally assembled, suggesting the suspects may have had access to chemical materials. Campus on Alert, Building Closed for Forensics Harvard University has tightened security across the Longwood Medical Area, which also includes Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In an internal notice, Harvard urged staff and students to remain vigilant and travel in pairs at night. “There is no immediate threat to the campus community,” the statement read, “but patrols have been increased out of caution.” The Goldenson Building remains closed pending completion of the FBI’s forensic sweep. As of Saturday night, investigators were still reviewing street and lab corridor surveillance footage to trace the suspects’ escape route. “This investigation remains very active,” Harvard Police said. “We are pursuing all leads.” Get Latest News Live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from US News and around the World.

Dolphins Could Soon Make Shocking Quinn Ewers Decision

The Miami Dolphins quickly began to make changes to the organization following a 28-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on “Thursday Night Football.” More news: Report: Dolphins Decide the Fate of Mike McDaniel After Parting Ways With Chris Grier The loss dropped the Dolphins to 2-7, and general manager Chris Grier was fired on Friday. Miami named Champ Kelly as their interim general manager, and he could create a fire sale before the trade deadline on Tuesday to help the team start a rebuild. (Photo by Kara Durrette/Getty Images) More news: Report: Bengals Defender Requests Trade Ahead of Deadline It’s unclear if Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel or quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will be a part of the rebuild in 2026. Tagovailoa has struggled this season, throwing for 1,779 yards, 15 touchdowns and a league-high 11 interceptions through his first nine games. Tagovailoa threw for 261 yards and an interception in Thursday night’s blowout loss. Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Miami could turn to rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers to start before the end of the season. “Seventh-round rookie Quinn Ewers impressed enough to replace Wilson for one game recently as Tagovailoa’s primary backup, and he’s come on in practice, as well,” Rapoport wrote. “The possibility that Ewers could play meaningful snaps if Tagovailoa continues to struggle should not be discounted. “Tagovailoa’s play would have to really fall off for Miami to turn to either Wilson or Ewers, but a potential benching is not off the table at some point this season.” Ewers went 5-of-8 passing for 53 yards against the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 19, his only appearance of the season. The Dolphins might want to see what Ewers can give them amid Tagovailoa’s uncertain future with the team. Per Rapoport, the most viable option for Miami could be to trade Tagovailoa in 2026. “Another option, which seems more viable, is pay down some of the salary next offseason and trade him as a bridge QB for a team in transition or one that has a young QB they’d like to have sit,” Rapoport wrote of Tagovailoa. The Dolphins selected Ewers in the seventh round of April’s draft. He had a successful career at Texas, leading the Longhorns to back-to-back appearances in the College Football Playoff semifinal round. For more on the Dolphins and the NFL, head to Newsweek Sports.

There’s very little to split No. 23 USC (5-2) and Nebraska (6-2) in the Big Ten ahead of Saturday’s matchup. (Photo by Ric Tapia/Getty Images) How to Watch USC vs Nebraska Date: Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025 Time: 7:30 PM EDT Channel: NBC Stream: Fubo (try for free) No. 23 USC visits Memorial Stadium on Saturday, desperate to extend its run of four consecutive wins over Nebraska, which hasn’t won this matchup in more than 50 years. Neither USC head coach Lincoln Riley nor Nebraska counterpart Matt Rhule was even born the last (and only) time the Cornhuskers got a win over the Trojans to date. Two very evenly matched teams will square off, knowing a win this weekend could dictate their prospects for the end-of-season run-in. The Trojans are 2-6 on the road since joining the Big Ten, and this weekend’s 6.5-point frontrunner has gone 3-11 against the spread as a traveling favorite since Riley took over three years ago. The Huskers, meanwhile, are 13-6 at home under Rhule’s command, and this season’s sole defeat at Memorial Stadium was by just three points against Michigan in September. Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola and opposite number Jayden Maiava will be in the spotlight on Saturday, with the end result likely coming down to which team takes better care of the ball as turnovers come into play. Kentucky (2-5) is banking on a trip to Auburn (4-4) to provide its first SEC win of the season on Saturday. The Tigers aren’t much better off by comparison, though they at least have the SEC monkey off their back after last week’s win over Arkansas stopped a slide of four straight defeats. Conjure up a little more of that, and there’s every chance Auburn will still go to a bowl game this year, with minnow Mercer still to play between underdog matchups against Vanderbilt and Alabama. Lose, however, and the target on head coach Hugh Freeze’s back may look a little larger come Sunday. The Wildcats ditched former Auburn quarterback Zach Calzada near the start of the season and have looked a lot more productive with redshirt freshman Cutter Boley calling the shots. While last week’s 56-34 loss to Tennessee wasn’t pretty, Boley impressed with five touchdown passes and 330 yards, marking him out as one asset Auburn needs to cage to gain traction this weekend. Former NFL Player Blasts Vikings for 'Wasting' Justin Jefferson's Prime

Former NFL Player Blasts Vikings for 'Wasting' Justin Jefferson's Prime

The Minnesota Vikings haven’t had the season they’ve been looking for, and a lot of that has to do with the quarterback play. J.J. McCarthy, the second-year quarterback who was drafted in the first round last year and was injured for his rookie campaign, as well as veteran Carson Wentz, who is also dealing with an injury. More news: Vikings Linked to Trade That Would Give JJ McCarthy Competition It’ll be interesting to see what the Vikings do moving forward, but McCarthy might not be the player they were looking for, and some believe that’s a problem for players like Justin Jefferson. That includes former NFL player Bart Scott, who went so far as to say that the Vikings are ruining his prime. INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA – OCTOBER 23: Justin Jefferson #18 of the Minnesota Vikings stands on the field prior to an NFL football game against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium on October 23, 2025 in Inglewood, California. “I think they’re wasting Justin Jefferson’s prime,” Scott said on “Get Up.” “Listen, they took a big gamble by going with a first-year starter with all the things that they pushed. They pushed all their chips into the middle of the table when they made all these acquisitions—improving the offensive line, going out and getting defensive line help—and then to put it all in the hands of a rookie QB. “Nobody came into this season with more pressure than J.J. McCarthy because we know what we got from Sam Darnold. I agree with that. The fact that they let Sam Darnold go, let [Daniel Jones] go, and said, ‘That’s who we’re going to go with,‘ that is more pressure than anybody in the NFL.” Not only has Jefferson consistently impressed every year since entering the NFL, but it seems apparent that he wants to win at the highest level. More news: Vikings, JJ McCarthy Receive Concerning News for Lions Game At the moment, the Vikings aren’t exactly offering them that, and he can undoubtedly be frustrated with the team’s decision to move on from Sam Darnold last year. Had the Vikings decided to keep Darnold, they’d likely be in a much better spot than they’re currently in. For more on the Vikings and NFL, head to Newsweek Sports.

Giants Reportedly Willing to Move on From 1st-Round Bust

It’s been a tough season for the New York Giants. While they seem to have found their quarterback with youngster Jaxson Dart, that hasn’t come without Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers suffering season-ending injuries. More news: Giants Trade Idea Flips Kayvon Thibodeaux for Cam Skattebo Replacement It was evident that the Giants had plenty of talent, and when healthy, might’ve even been one of the more underrated teams in the NFL. EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY – OCTOBER 9: Head coach Brian Daboll of the New York Giants walks the field prior to an NFL football game against the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium on October 9, 2025 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Kevin Sabitus/Getty Images) That’s without factoring in the defensive side of the football. If there’s one area for the Giants that’s been above-average over the past few seasons, it’s been on the defensive side of the football, led by Kayvon Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux has been one of the better players in the NFL over the past few years, and one could strongly argue that he’d truly help a contending team more than most players around the NFL. However, according to the latest from Albert Breer of SI, and perhaps the right decision, the Giants have been telling teams that they don’t plan to trade him as of now. Of course, anything can change ahead of the trade deadline, as teams could be blown away with offers, but it seems likely that they won’t move on from Thibodeaux as of now. “The Giants haven’t signaled much desire to deal off parts (and have told teams no on Kayvon Thibodeaux thus far). But Evan Neal could be had as a reclamation project for someone. Similarly, former first-rounder Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is now in Cleveland, and could be a depth piece for one of those edge-hungry teams,” Breer wrote. More news: 49ers Make Final Brock Purdy Decision Against Giants Regarding Evan Neal, if the Giants could move on from him and acquire something of value in return, it should be a deal they look to make, given how poorly he’s played in recent years. Neal was drafted with the No. 7 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, with many expecting him to be an elite offensive tackle. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. While the Giants won’t get much in return, something might be better than nothing at this point. For more on the Giants and NFL, head to Newsweek Sports.
