Former NFL Player Blasts Vikings for 'Wasting' Justin Jefferson's Prime

The Minnesota Vikings haven’t had the season they’ve been looking for, and a lot of that has to do with the quarterback play. J.J. McCarthy, the second-year quarterback who was drafted in the first round last year and was injured for his rookie campaign, as well as veteran Carson Wentz, who is also dealing with an injury. More news: Vikings Linked to Trade That Would Give JJ McCarthy Competition It’ll be interesting to see what the Vikings do moving forward, but McCarthy might not be the player they were looking for, and some believe that’s a problem for players like Justin Jefferson. That includes former NFL player Bart Scott, who went so far as to say that the Vikings are ruining his prime. INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA – OCTOBER 23: Justin Jefferson #18 of the Minnesota Vikings stands on the field prior to an NFL football game against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium on October 23, 2025 in Inglewood, California. “I think they’re wasting Justin Jefferson’s prime,” Scott said on “Get Up.” “Listen, they took a big gamble by going with a first-year starter with all the things that they pushed. They pushed all their chips into the middle of the table when they made all these acquisitions—improving the offensive line, going out and getting defensive line help—and then to put it all in the hands of a rookie QB. “Nobody came into this season with more pressure than J.J. McCarthy because we know what we got from Sam Darnold. I agree with that. The fact that they let Sam Darnold go, let [Daniel Jones] go, and said, ‘That’s who we’re going to go with,‘ that is more pressure than anybody in the NFL.” Not only has Jefferson consistently impressed every year since entering the NFL, but it seems apparent that he wants to win at the highest level. More news: Vikings, JJ McCarthy Receive Concerning News for Lions Game At the moment, the Vikings aren’t exactly offering them that, and he can undoubtedly be frustrated with the team’s decision to move on from Sam Darnold last year. Had the Vikings decided to keep Darnold, they’d likely be in a much better spot than they’re currently in. For more on the Vikings and NFL, head to Newsweek Sports.

Giants Reportedly Willing to Move on From 1st-Round Bust

It’s been a tough season for the New York Giants. While they seem to have found their quarterback with youngster Jaxson Dart, that hasn’t come without Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers suffering season-ending injuries. More news: Giants Trade Idea Flips Kayvon Thibodeaux for Cam Skattebo Replacement It was evident that the Giants had plenty of talent, and when healthy, might’ve even been one of the more underrated teams in the NFL. EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY – OCTOBER 9: Head coach Brian Daboll of the New York Giants walks the field prior to an NFL football game against the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium on October 9, 2025 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Kevin Sabitus/Getty Images) That’s without factoring in the defensive side of the football. If there’s one area for the Giants that’s been above-average over the past few seasons, it’s been on the defensive side of the football, led by Kayvon Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux has been one of the better players in the NFL over the past few years, and one could strongly argue that he’d truly help a contending team more than most players around the NFL. However, according to the latest from Albert Breer of SI, and perhaps the right decision, the Giants have been telling teams that they don’t plan to trade him as of now. Of course, anything can change ahead of the trade deadline, as teams could be blown away with offers, but it seems likely that they won’t move on from Thibodeaux as of now. “The Giants haven’t signaled much desire to deal off parts (and have told teams no on Kayvon Thibodeaux thus far). But Evan Neal could be had as a reclamation project for someone. Similarly, former first-rounder Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is now in Cleveland, and could be a depth piece for one of those edge-hungry teams,” Breer wrote. More news: 49ers Make Final Brock Purdy Decision Against Giants Regarding Evan Neal, if the Giants could move on from him and acquire something of value in return, it should be a deal they look to make, given how poorly he’s played in recent years. Neal was drafted with the No. 7 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, with many expecting him to be an elite offensive tackle. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. While the Giants won’t get much in return, something might be better than nothing at this point. For more on the Giants and NFL, head to Newsweek Sports.

Michigan State HC Jonathan Smith Makes QB Change Amid Hot Seat Speculation

Michigan State HC Jonathan Smith Makes QB Change Amid Hot Seat Speculation

After winning their first three games of the season, the Michigan State Spartans have fallen on hard times, dropping their last five games. As a result, the team has opted to make a change at the quarterback position as a potential last-ditch effort from Spartans head coach Jonathan Smith to potentially save his job. The five-game losing streak for Michigan State has many questioning Smith’s job security in East Lansing. Smith’s overall tenure with the Spartans has been far from stellar, recording just an 8-12 record over his two years at the program. Throughout Smith’s time at Michigan State, junior quarterback Aiden Chiles has been the starting quarterback of the team since following Smith from his past coaching tenure at Oregon State. Chiles has been solid for the Spartans this season, throwing for 1,392 yards with ten passing touchdowns and only three interceptions. However, it seems as if Jonathan Smith is looking for answers elsewhere at the quarterback position as he looks to end the team’s five-game losing streak any way he can. (Photo by Nic Antaya/Getty Images) More news: Lions DC Kelvin Sheppard Addresses Rumors on LSU Coaching Vacancy According to Corey Robinson of On3 Sports, redshirt freshman Alessio Milivojevic will start at quarterback for Saturday’s game against Minnesota, ending a streak of 20 consecutive starts for Chiles with the Spartans. This decision comes after Smith was named on a list of the top 10 coaches around college football on the “hot seat” by Andy Staples of On3 Sports. Clearly, Smith seems to be desperate to turn things around anyway possible, even if that means sitting their long-term starting quarterback. Despite not seeing a start thus far this season, Milivojevic has seen significant on-field action this season, relieving Chiles in five games thus far this year. For the most part, Milivojevic has been impressive, completing 59.5 percent of his passes with three passing touchdowns and one interception. More news: Ed Orgeron Doesn’t Hold Back on LSU Coaching Vacancy While Saturday’s game may not be a must-win game for Smith to save his job, the remainder of the 2025 season may certainly be crucial for his future in East Lansing. So it will certainly be interesting to see whether Milivojevic can help bring a spark to a program that desperately needs it in the worst way. Texas' Arch Manning Given Strong Endorsement During Career-Best Game

For much of the 2025 season, Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning has failed to meet the lofty expectations placed on him. However, on Saturday, Manning showed everyone what he is capable of in a monumental win over the No. 9-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores. Manning came into Saturday’s matchup after his best performance to date against Mississippi State in Week 9, throwing for 346 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-38 overtime victory. Still, there were areas to improve on, as Manning threw an interception that helped keep the Bulldogs in the game. The former top recruit was able to build on this performance in Week 10. Playing mistake-free football, Manning was able to help lead Texas to a 34-31 victory, throwing for 328 yards and three passing touchdowns in the process. For the Longhorns, the win was a massive one to potentially keep their CFP hopes alive. However, the individual performance from Arch was arguably equally as important for his perception around college football. (Photo by Kenneth Richmond/Getty Images) More news: Ed Orgeron Doesn’t Hold Back on LSU Coaching Vacancy In the second quarter of Saturday’s game, ESPN play-by-play broadcaster Sean McDonough addressed all of the criticism Manning has faced this season, suggesting that his play on Saturday would go a long way in reigniting his candidacy for the Heisman Trophy. “Arch Manning was the preseason (Heisman) favorite,” said McDonough. “He’s fallen completely off the board. He’s on target again and he might be reigniting candidacy with this performance!” "Arch Manning was the preseason (Heisman) favorite … he's fallen completely off the board. … He's on target again and he might be reigniting candidacy with this performance!"ESPN's Sean McDonough inserted Arch back into the Heisman race on Texas' last scoring drive pic.twitter.com/eXb0fYPNdt— Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) November 1, 2025 More news: Lions DC Kelvin Sheppard Addresses Rumors on LSU Coaching Vacancy Heisman Trophy candidates have always historically had big moments that helped seal their candidacy. Saturday’s game may very well serve as just that for Manning. While some may never get some of Manning’s struggles early in the season out of their head, the past few weeks have helped show that Texas may truly be a top contender in the SEC moving forward. Things won’t get any easier for Manning or the Longhorns, as they will face off against the No. 5-ranked Georgia Bulldogs in Week 11 and the No. 3-ranked Texas A&M Aggies in Week 13. With that being said, if Arch is able to maintain this level of play moving forward, Manning may squarely find himself in the Heisman conversation as Texas continues to grow as a team. Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino Opens Up About Getting His ‘Abs Back’ After 30-Lb. Weight Loss amid Sobriety Journey

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is back to flexing his famous abs after shedding pounds amid his latest fitness comeback. The Jersey Shore alum, 43, revealed in an interview with the New York Post while chatting about his weight loss journey that he’s 30 lbs. lighter thanks to a new diet and workout plan. “I probably haven’t been this weight since 19 or 20 years old,” Sorrentino told the outlet. “I’m also realizing that maybe a lot of genetics have to do with it because as soon as I lost the weight, the abs are just there.” “I’m like, ‘Oh my God, God decided to give me back my abs,’ ” he added. The reality star shared that in order to achieve the feat, he implemented a two-hour gym routine five days a week. He also set up a strict diet plan — cutting out Italian favorites like pasta and chicken cutlets — which is something he said that he’s planning to ease up on. “Abs are made in the kitchen,” he told the NYP. “I never cheated on my diet, but I’m going to start to implement that cheat day because I’m down to 180 [lbs.] now.” Sorrentino, who is shooting Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, noted that the MTV production team was doubtful that he would be able to get his signature abs back, but he made sure to prove them wrong. “I started telling production at MTV, ‘I think I’m going to get ‘The Situation’ back. I’m putting in the work, I’m starting to look good.’ And they were like, ‘Yeah, okay,’ ” he recalled. “Because I’m not a spring chicken. I’m not in my 20s anymore.” He surprised fans by showing off his new body at the MTV VMA Awards Ceremony last month, which he also shared on Instagram. He noted that fans were also skeptical about his transformation. “Everyone’s like, ‘Oh, he had a facelift,’ because I had just showed my face. It was all over the press … And I’m like, ‘It was gym, tanning, laundry,’ ” Sorrentino said, jokingly referring to the saying the Jersey Shore cast made famous. The dad of three also refuted rumors in his interview with the NYP that he used a GLP-1, like Ozempic, in order to achieve weight loss, saying that he wouldn’t do it since those kinds of weight loss drugs also cause muscle loss. Sorrentino shared that he’s overcome numerous challenges to get to where he is today — including battling an addiction to prescription painkillers, which he’s been sober from for 10 years and serving time in prison for tax evasion, among other personal hurdles. Ja Morant suspended 1 game by Memphis for conduct detrimental to the team - AP News

Memphis has suspended two-time All-Star guard Ja Morant for its game Sunday at the Toronto Raptors, with the Grizzlies citing what they described as conduct detrimental to the team. Morant scored only eight points in Memphis’ 117-112 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night. He had a brief postgame interview session, with most of his answers some form of “Go ask the coaching staff.” Morant also seemed disengaged at times in that game, even walking a few steps away from the bench area during a time-out in the second half. Asked about what happened in the game, Morant said, “Go ask them,” referring to the coaching staff. He did not score in the second half. He did give a different answer when asked if he felt like he should have played more or what could have gone differently. “According to them, probably don’t play me, honestly,” Morant said. “That’s what basically the message was, after. It’s cool.” Morant played 8 minutes, 25 seconds in the fourth quarter on Friday, more than any other Memphis player. He logged 16:11 of on-court time in the second half, second-most on the team; Jaren Jackson Jr. played 16:20 after halftime. Morant missed all seven of his shots in the second half. This suspension is the latest in a long series of disciplinary actions with Morant in recent years. He was suspended twice in 2023 for incidents with guns, those two events costing him 33 games and about $8.3 million in salary. The first was an eight-game ban for the live streaming of a video in which he displayed a firearm while in an intoxicated state at a Denver-area nightclub. The other was a 25-game ban after posing with a firearm in a car during another live-streamed video, when the league said Morant “wielded the firearm while knowing that he was being recorded and that the recording was being live streamed on Instagram Live, despite having made commitments to the NBA and public statements that he would not repeat the conduct for which he was previously disciplined.” He was fined $75,000 last season for an aiming-a-gun gesture to celebrate making 3-pointers. The league called the gesture “inappropriate,” adding that “Morant was previously warned by the league office that this gesture could be interpreted in a negative light.” Morant is making about $39.4 million this season and is in the third year of a five-year, $197.2 million contract. He’s averaging 20.8 points per game through six outings so far this season. AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/nba

Nate Sheppard’s 3-yard TD, Duke’s 2-point conversion stun Clemson 46-45 - AP News

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Duke coach Manny Diaz did not want to chance overtime at Clemson’s Death Valley. His team made sure he wouldn’t have to. Nate Sheppard had a 3-yard touchdown run with 40 seconds left and Duke followed with a two-point conversion from Darian Mensah to Shamir Hagans to win at Clemson for the first time since 1980 with a 46-45 victory Saturday. “Going extra innings at Death Valley isn’t really a good plan,” Diaz said. Winning in regulation somewhere you hadn’t in 45 years? “This is a major step for our program,” Diaz said. The Blue Devils (5-3, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) trailed 45-38 and started the game-winning drive on their 6-yard line. Mensah led an 11-play drive in which he converted two fourth downs to set up Sheppard’s TD run. There was no hesitation from Duke’s Diaz who kept the offense on the field and Mensah quicky found Hagans for the decisive points. It was a quirky game of dramatic momentum swings. Duke looked unstoppable in gaining 199 yards in the first quarter to lead 21-7. But Clemson woke up with three straight TDs to lead 28-21. The Tigers looked in control again with six minutes left until Duke’s final drive. “We just stayed poised and showed our confidence,” Mensah said. It was another low moment in a terrible season for Clemson (3-5, 1-4), the defending ACC champions and a trendy pick to win Dabo Swinney’s third national title. The Tigers have lost four home games for the first time since 1998. They’re on pace for Swinney’s worst season since 2010 when the Tigers were 6-7 and the coach thought his time at the school was done. Instead, he won eight ACC titles and national championships after the 2016 and 2018 seasons. “I feel like I’m in 2010 all over again,” Swinney said. After Duke took the final lead, the Tigers tried a desperation, pass the ball to anyone open play as the clock ran out. When Duke finally stopped the play, the sidelines jumped into joyous celebration. After all, it had been more than four decades since the football Blue Devils had left Death Valley with a victory. Mensah finished with 361 yards passing and a career-best four touchdown passes. Clemson piled up the yards and points, too — 560 yards and its most points this season — but could not get the critical stops to avoid a third straight home loss. Cade Klubnik, in his first game back since getting injured against Boston College last month, passed for 385 yards and two touchdowns for Clemson. Receiver Antonio Williams caught 10 passes for 139 yards, running for one score and catching another. Likely NFL first-round defensive lineman Peter Woods added a 1-yard rush off a direct snap for Clemson. Clemson linebacker Wade Woodaz said this season has made him sick. “It’s not like we’re not practicing. It’s not like we’re not working,” he said. “It hurts.” The takeaway Duke: The Blue Devils pulled out all the stops to snap a 15-game losing streak here. They finished 5-of-5 on fourth downs, four of those coming in the first half. Hagans also had a 100-yard kickoff return score in the third quarter. Clemson: Things can’t get much lower for the Tigers, on the verge of their worst season of Swinney’s 17 full seasons. They play Florida State next week and have road games at Louisville and rival South Carolina. In the ACC mix Duke’s late rally kept the Blue Devils in the hunt for a spot in the league’s title game next month. Coming off a loss to Georgia Tech two weeks ago, the Blue Devils could’ve fallen out of the hunt. Instead, they are assured of bigger games ahead. Duke football landmarks The Blue Devils won their fifth straight ACC road game, something they had not done since a stretch from Sept. 1961 through Sept. 1963. Duke had lost 15 straight games at Death Valley since its last win in 1980. Duke goes to UConn on Saturday. Clemson plays its final ACC home game against Florida State on Saturday night. —- Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here and here (AP News mobile app). Trump orders War Department to ready strike plans for Nigeria

United States President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Nigeria, saying the U.S. may launch military action against what he described as “Islamic Terrorists” responsible for the killing of Christians in the country. In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria. We may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities. I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!” The president’s Saturday message follows his earlier announcement that Nigeria would be placed on a U.S. watchlist for religious freedom violations. Trump said the country would be added to the Department of State’s list of “Countries of Particular Concern,” citing what he described as ongoing attacks against Christians. Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, has long been divided between a predominantly Muslim north and a largely Christian south. Violence linked to Islamist insurgents, including the group Boko Haram and its offshoot Islamic State West Africa Province, has plagued the country for over a decade, leading to mass displacement and widespread insecurity. As reported by international agencies, attacks in Nigeria’s northern and central regions have claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions since 2009. While the government in Abuja maintains that it is taking steps to combat terrorism, President Trump’s remarks suggest growing frustration in Washington over the country’s handling of religious violence. In a previous statement, Trump said that Nigerian authorities have “allowed the slaughter of Christians” and warned that continued inaction could have consequences. His latest comments go further, raising the possibility of U.S. military involvement—a move that would represent a major escalation in American engagement in West Africa. Nigeria’s government has consistently denied that the violence is driven primarily by religion. Officials in Abuja argue that most clashes are rooted in disputes over land, water, and access to grazing areas between Christian farmers and Muslim herders. They also contend that the government is equally committed to protecting all citizens, regardless of faith. Still, Trump’s statement appears to link the violence directly to religious persecution, suggesting that the administration views the situation as part of a broader global concern over attacks on Christian communities. If the U.S. were to suspend aid or intervene militarily, it could alter the balance of relations between Washington and Abuja, which have traditionally centered on counterterrorism cooperation, economic assistance, and energy trade. Nigeria has been a key partner in regional security efforts and receives U.S. support in intelligence, training, and humanitarian relief.
