Research AssociateFood Safety and PreservationMt Albert, New ZealandVacancy number: 58426Minimum guaranteed hours: 20 hours per weekFixed-TermMake a real impact by improving the safety and quality of New Zealand's seafood and horticultural products.Work hands-on in a well-equipped lab with cutting-edge microbiology and molecular biology techniques.Collaborate with leading scientists and industry partners on meaningful, real-world research projects.What you will be doing | Ngā whāinga matuaAs a Research Associate in the Food Safety and Preservation team, you will support laboratory-based research focused on improving the safety, quality, and shelf-life of New Zealand seafood and horticultural products. You will contribute to commercial and government-funded projects by applying microbiology and molecular biology techniques, managing data collection and analysis, and assisting with equipment and lab maintenance. The role involves collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and may include field sampling and travel. This is a fixed-term position based at the Mount Albert Research Centre, offering a dynamic environment for hands-on scientific research.What you will bring | Ngā tino pūkenga me ngā wheakoTo be successful in this role, the minimum qualifications required are:Tertiary degree in a relevant biological field (such as BSc degree or Masters) or three years' experience) in molecular microbiology, microbiology and/or other directly relevant subjectCareful and accurate laboratory procedures and data recording. An organised and methodical approach to tasks and commitment to effective project management and record keeping.Knowledge and experience of lab-based microbiology techniques including media preparation, microbial isolation and plating.Knowledge and experience in basic molecular biology techniques.
