Job DescriptionWe are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accountant to join our finance team at Guardian General Insurance Limited. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and providing accurate financial information to support decision-making processes within the organisation.

Job ObjectiveThe Accountant is responsible for preparing, reviewing and analyzing financial reports for the company. He/ she must have in-depth knowledge of bookkeeping, auditing and budgeting procedures. The Accountant is required to monitor daily transactions and recommend ways we can improve our processes and procedures. This position plays a vital role in the organization’s financial operations, ensuring compliance with the law and accuracy in accounting. ResponsibilitiesPrepares Annual Shareholder Reports for Group and Parent Company in accordance with IFRS. Provides accurate financial reports and information to the Parent Company within stipulated timeframes.

Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing financial and statistical information. Reviews and/or prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports for certain Branches. Assists the Manager with annual budgeting and forecasting routines. Reviews and/or prepares reports to Insurance Regulators in Trinidad and other Caribbean Islands. Reviews and/or prepares taxation computations and returns required in the various operating territories. Prepares cash flow forecasts for certain Branches. Guides accounting staff by coordinating activities and answering questions on accounting policies, procedures and regulations. Authorizes certain disbursements after auditing supporting documents.

Reviews bank reconciliations and assists with clearance of reconciling items on a timely basis. Manage internal and external auditsIdentify operation and/or financial risks arising from the reconciliations within their responsibilityOversee the daily monitoring and reporting of cash balances, update cash flow forecasts and make recommendations for inter-bank transfersDevelop and maintain current, relevant procedures and controls to ensure accurate and timely recording of cash transactions; and to eliminate or limit the risks identifiedTrain and develop direct reports.

Lead, motivate, inspire and encourage employees through effective performance management – setting of clear goals and objectives, ensuring the performance gaps are closed through training, monitoring work performance through continuous performance discussions and timely completion of appraisals. Education5 CSEC Passes, including English Language and Mathematics2 A’ Levels (CAPE)ACCA QualifiedExperience5 years accounting experience. 3 years post qualification. Proven work experience as an Accountant in Property and Casualty. Thorough knowledge of accounting and financial procedures. Understanding of IFRS. Microsoft Office knowledge. Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail. Integrity, with an ability to handle confidential information.

Person SpecificationThe Accountant must be meticulous, systematic and logical. They must be able to manage time and resources efficiently. They must possess the ability to communicate effectively with management and various departments.
