Professional development opportunity and mentorship A rapidly growing center within an academic settingHere Is What You Will DoFirst-Year & Transition Programs in the Office of Student Success seeks an Academic Specialist who will focus on retention by helping students make successful transitions in critical academic program areas through various interventions and initiatives. The role will assist with delivering programs focused on undergraduate students' needs, primarily those in their first year. The support of these kinds of retention initiatives is an essential part of Georgia State meeting the Strategic Plan's goals. This position is on the front line of the institutions' commitment to helping students from all backgrounds succeed at high rates. The selected individuals will work in conjunction with all resources on behalf of First-Year & Transition Programs to support undergraduate students' academic progression.Essential Job FunctionsWorks with campus partners in Admissions, Financial Aid, and University Housing to create robust and enticing events and activities to support the recruitment of students all FYTP special populations including, but not limited to Success Academy in Atlanta, Perimeter Academy in Clarkston, Decatur, and Dunwoody, State Farm Scholars at Decatur, and Yardi program in Atlanta.Works with campus partners to recruit current GSU students into FYTP programs, including but not limited to Accelerator, GSU 1050 and Transition scholars.Coordinates timely and relevant marketing and communication to support recruitment and retention efforts for all programs.Attend high school recruitment events such as college fairs, classroom visits, and counselor education sessions to provide information about all FYTP programs to high school students, their parents, and school counselors and administrators.Ensures successful onboarding of students including completion of admissions requirements, FAFSA, and New Student Orientation registration.Attends New Student Orientation to support onboarding of first-year students.Assists with all other administrative tasks related to the recruitment and onboarding of students.Supports engagement activities and events designed to support the smooth transition from high school to college for students.Supports engagement activities and events designed to support participation in FYPT programs for students.Answers email inquiries from the relevant First-Year and Transition Programs email accounts sent by students, family members, instructors, faculty, and staff.Supports First-Year & Transition Program’s initiatives and events including presentations, workshops, events, outreach, administrative processing, and other duties as assigned.The Academic Specialist will be expected to teach GSU 1010.QualificationsMinimum Hiring Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four years administrative experience; or a high school diploma or GED and eight years administrative experience; or a combination of education and related experience.Preferred Hiring QualificationsPreference may be given to those who possess a Master's degree and have experience in creating and implementing programs for retention & progression to graduation and success for all students.
